Everyone is still expecting this to be very flat on days 2, 3 & 4 so NZ are going to have to magic up a few more wickets somehow and then bat well second time around. SA a little ahead despite the two wickets from the sounds of things.

We let slip. Should never have allowed Nz to get 260 from being 4 down at lunch.
Pitch definitely flattened out and Nicholls played well. Morkel was not great either. Only reason we bowled them out was they gave at least 4 soft wickets away to Maharaj and Duminy (if not 6).

Strange day of cricket. Honours even I would say with those wickets by NZ.
Indeed. Watched the first session. All looked good with 4 wickets and our 3 quicks were hitting the right lengths and all of a sudden just before lunch we started bowling too full and let Nicholls and Raval get away a bit.

And then if you told me , 6 wickets would fall to spin I wouldn't have believed you either.

Big day for both teams.

Needed that, so irritating when the nightwatchman hangs around.

Need at least a couple more in the first hour.

Ripper going across Duminy first ball too!

Hope the ball continues to swing like this for the next 10 or 15 overs.

why isn't wagner given the new ball?

is he not trusted because of all his banter bumpers and scrambled seam?
Partly, though his seam position these days is better than it used to be, when you really did want to keep him away from the new ball.

... and CDG does get the new ball to swing, but he's making the batsman play only about 50% of the time, which is rubbish at his pace.

2 much CDG.

His figures look good and all but all he's doing is getting the SA batsmen accustomed to the pitch.
