At least Johnson doesn't always have to be bowling well and in good form to pick up wickets, and being able to get them out of the ordinary when he is bowling terrible is handy.

Johnson however has been like that for all his career bar those 8 games in 2008/09. Unlike Harmison his career is yet young.
