Interestingly, about 2 months ago an umpire in Wellington cricket got the boot for calling a ball 'wide' when the batsman hit it to point.

Social's knowledge of cricket is probably at about that level by the sounds.

If you are able to hit the ball then it can not be wide as the purpose of calling a wide is so that bowlers can not bowl the ball so wide that the batsmen can not hit it.
