I think Boam should be much higher than number eight, and agree that Wellington could do with an extra bowler. What I was saying was I think Boam is pretty decent. Genuine FC 4th seamer and looks like a test match 5th bowler provided your other four bowlers are proper bowlers.
Yep, fully agree with that. Boam's the type of player you hope ends up making it to the
test level as a batsmen just because he'll bring that incredibly handy seam up 5th bowling option. Jimmy Neesham and Logan Van Beek are much the same. Can obviously make your team that much better by having cricketers like them in it.

Edit: Great to see Rutherford, KNB and Cachopa ton up today. Looks like a lot of starts for Auckland so far but no tons, which is unfortunate for them.
And Lord Colin as of this morning, right?

I see an article in Stuff today saying Wagner may not be available until October now..pretty Mickey Mouse.

Have just watched Wagner's 7-for on the video highlights. Not the best he's ever had. Both openers out cutting while Elliot & Boam didn't play a shot (but still good balls). Have only watched the wickets though.

I also watched Duffy's entire spell. Had already seen him in the T20 so knew his action looks good from an injury-prevention POV, and has decent pace. Was wanting to see what he did with a red ball and attacking fields.

Looks like he gets natural away shape to the right-handers when he bowls in the 4th stump channel. But with his relatively front-on action it is not extreme away shape, which can be a good thing. Drifted a bit straight on occasion without being picked off, but there was a left/right combination for most of his spell although he bowled almost exclusively to Pollard.

Apart from his wicket caught at 2nd slip, he also had an edge between first slip and keeper and another edge between 3rd and gully. 8 of his 17 runs conceded.

Judging by the footmarks already on the wicket from (I presume) Butler. His follow through isn't that strong. (Or Butler's is exagerated?)

It was a bowler's day, ideal conditions to make a debut in that wickets had already fallen and the batsmen were attempting to consolidate. But very good effort for a 17 year old.

Big hundred by Rutherford - our brightest opening prospect? We should definitely send him as an eighteen year old for a tour of the West Indies . I wonder if he's started working on the back-foot cut to slips and back-foot cut onto stumps like his Dad yet.

Interesting to see allrounders like Noema-Barnett and Munro moving into the middle order for their sides. I've only seen Munro in HRV cup once or twice but thought he at least generated a fair bit of bat-speed - anyone who can do that has the potential to be a decent batsman in any form IMO. SteveNZ to comment.

SteveNZ to confirm Munro is a very, very good first class No.6. adaptable to any format. He was in less than ideal form in the HRV but battled his way thru it, thrived in the Ford Trophy and kicked on further. Debuted as a bowler who could bat a bit and has worked on his game to the stage now where he's a batsman who bowls a little bit.

It's still game on, Carl Cachopa you superstar. His old Auckland buddies will owe him a jar or two if they can get up.

Auckland have 26 overs tomorrow morning to get 8 more wickets, which would keep their hopes of a full 20-point outright win alive.

ND got their 4 bowling pts which means the Aces need a 20-pointer even if the Knights lose. All eyes turn to Mitch_M for 2nd new ball magic.

And Ish Sodhi is a good cricketer. A very good cricketer.
There isn't any video of Sodhi around is there? Just found this photo so far.

Wgtn should really make a play for Sodhi, if Bruce Martin is in any way a hurdle between him and FC game time.

Could prove a mid-term investment obviously, but if Gillespie's around a lot less to shoulder the attack, and the Basin block stays quite bouncy and short of nip (ideal for Ronchi tonk), the Firebirds have a huge amount to gain from a spin revelation with the ball.

Nah I wouldn't have thought there's any footage around, unless you check the Auckland Cricket youtube page? They have club cricket footage, albeit woeful. Think there's even a bit of awful stuff floating around of SteveNZ...

I dunno if he'll need to go to Wellington. If he has a strong time of it in NZ U19 and impresses in pre-season, I think he'll be right in the mix.

Oh and on the second new ball, Auckland don't have it. The innings is 84 overs old but the ball got hit onto Merton Rd and is reversing. They might take the newie this morning if it doesn't start going.

Huge morning, might even pop along.

98 overs down, Canty still only 3 wickets down.

Even if the Aucks break through, ND get another chance, if they are good enough to bowl out CD they can chase down the total for their 5th FC win of the season ...
