Good ball for an old soft one but Buttler whilst looking keen to score maybe didn't need to move across the crease like that... Nortje nearly bowled him inside his first 5-10 balls doing that.

Nasser saying it a pretty good nut but if he wasn't wandering about like a tit then he'd have got nowhere near it.

That's a complete nothing shot. If you're going to jump across your crease like that, then you don't need to defend anything outside your eyeline at all. Leave it or whack it.

Really good ball though.

he's been reading his bat handle imo, '**** it' which is probably right if you ask me. He isn't really good enough to accumulate. I don't see him playing test cricket past the end of the winter. Foakes will be in for SL as keeper, Buttler might keep his place as a batsman. And then Bairstow and Foakes will fight it out for the gloves come the summer.
Hard to argue with you after he's thrown away yet another start. The biggest factor in favour of Foakes may be that won't be anywhere near the one-day side.

Foakes got totally screwed over last year, shame that he had a poor season just gone but he has to be the next option rather than Bairstow. For now at least.

Should it be accepted though ? It seems ECB have done everything possible to knock back the importance of red ball cricket.

I also noticed all the English players are saying 4-day test cricket would work but Aus/SA players have been against it. Small things but all this doesn't give the right impression.
Yes I prefer it as a development squad rather than a second 15 squad, especially for away tours.

Take Vince and Malan.

a) They're had plenty of experience of foreign conditions in both lions and the full England side.
b) at the start of the winter they had limited chances of a recall to the test side.
c) they'd make much more money playing t20 around the world rather than lions cricket.
d) they are better bats than lawrence, bracey, northeast etc. The current batting is very inexperienced, bringing in another rookie bat would be a strategic error imo

They guys in the lions squad need the cricket more than Vince and Malan.

The lions setup has been failing for a while now anyway. The batsman who go into it often struggle afterwards and don't reach the test side. The bowlers are often injured. Guys like Rory Burns who put in consistent (but not spectacular figures) at county level are ignored for year after year by the lions (even when the full team is lacking opening bats), then they skip the lions all together and go straight into the test side. Whilst guys like Joe Clarke have year after year of lions cricket and seem to come out worse with flawed techniques. Last 5 years of lions cricket has been really bad. Least this winter they've cut down some of the cricket.

Well Bairstow needs to go back to Yorkshire and sort his technique out again or give up test cricket and just play as an opener in the shorter versions. Shouldn't be on this tour as we have discussed before.

Curran looks terrible, just planted his feet and swinging his bat so far away from his body. Will probably connect with a couple + a couple nicks for 4 then will be caught behind for 20 odd

Foakes did look slightly two bob against the seamers in the Windies too; Big Vern and Nortje would have him on toast here.

Think, like Keystonecops Jennings, he's far happier against spin.

I like Ollie Pope. Looks like he’s trying to build a good patient innings. Shame everybody around him keeps getting out. Disaster for England in reality.

Curran's been found out by the short ball imo. Ever since teams have gone at him with the short ball he's looked a jumpy mess even when they are bowling full. Think Broad but not quite as drastic yet.

He seems to have forgotten how he approached his batting innings when he did so well against India in 2018. At least he had a look at the bowling then before moving into attack mode.
