Archer has been disappointing, listening to some of the commenters online I was ready to see a genuine quick. Curren has looked the best, wonder if they replace Archer with Wood once he's fit.
He seems to blow very hot and cold. Almost like some days he dgaf and on others he really cranks it up

dobell wrote a pretty sulky article on cricinfo about the pitch lol

it looks a good deck for batting but both sides have bowlers who can render the pitch irrelevant. i wouldn't be surprised at all to get broad spelled or archer'd in our second innings.

hoping to see an improved performance in the field from nz. more catches going down with 2 days left is not ideal.
Dobell is terrible. Has been for years. Hope NZ rolls england for 120 in the second dig just to add further pain for him

That article about England being horribly unprepared with zero credit to NZ's exploitation of a docile surface would get penned so quickly it could be fatal.

im not sure he can control his pace at all tbh. he does have some consistently hot spells but there's a lot of '128, 135, 144, 132, 150, 134' going on in the ashes.

i look forward to him getting remembered as pea hearted in 10 years by the ever sympathetic pundits and joe public when he does the above on a few motorways.

Pitch has been absolutely fine. There has even been some turn and a bit of variable bounce.

And it's been day three, theoretically the best time for batting.

you'll need context for a couple of those. the 2012 zim game was the one we almost got crushed in wasn't it?

It looked like we were seriously teetering against Jarvis/Vitori, we ended up utterly crushing them with the ball in helpful conditions

No problem with these two starting slow this morning. England bowlers come out with a bit more energy this morning, but heads will start to drop after 10-15 overs and then they can make hay.

Are the England bowlers just not having a proper dig across the board? All consistently down on speed
England will randomly do this at times. Day 1 at OT over the winter comes to mind, they'll just decide not to put in a proper shift for a few sessions
England have quite a few times come to NZ and when NZ start to score runs, they get the sulky faces and teapots on like they're embarrassed to be conceding runs to little old NZ. They can feel everyone watching and they don't like it. I don't get that impression here though (absence of Jimmy Anderson may help), they're tried a few things but they haven't worked.

England also do have a habit though of putting in a very solid shift with the bat second innings in such circumstances to draw or win the match, whether that be the tour before last in two of the three drawn tests, or going back to Atherton winning a match against very young Vettori. Will be very hard again this match for NZ to bowl them out I'm sure.

they don't know how to bowl with a kookaburra in nz. anderson finally figured it out last tour but he's not here.

it's why we should never switch to the duke. it's better to go to england and learn to control the duke than to have the duke and be exposed when we use another brand.

england usually come here, bowl on or just back of a length in the corridor and get confused when they concede 400.

doully i'd be disappointed if santner was our specialist spinner in a test match

he's a nothing red ball bowler. can hold a bat tho.

He isn't a genuine test bowler-and is batting is more like a number 9 than 8.
Also gets called smart just because he looks smart lol.
Possibly one of the dumbest cricketing minds I've ever seen.
The guy left the last ball of the cwc final, not to draw a wide/no ball but because he kind of forgot.

Ya his bowling justifies his place in the Odi team but his selection as a spinner in tests ahead of ajaz patel and sommerville is not only comical but its corruption imo. He's been chosen because the selectors like his personality rather than on his cricketing performances .
That's a bit extreme ... you're the angriest vegan I've ever met.

I tell you one thing, Root is a really underrated bowler. Genuinely, I think he's 2nd spinner material long-term
