Re: CW XI to play Nottinghamshire XI

Lord: I think that Rik should stay on with the team to give us cover in the bowling department. He likely won't play any of the Tests, but there's no harm in him remaining with the squad.
He might help save a game...

CW XI v Nottinghamshire XI

at The Forest New Ground

The weather is very much overcast and predicted to be so until the second day. The pitch is green so it should offer something to the bowlers. There's not much for the spinners there.

Nottinghamshire XI 183 & 336
Cricket Web XI 363 & 157/4

Cricket Web XI won by 6 wickets

Man of the match: Lucky Eddie

Comments:
Cloete went berserk on the Notts bowling! Eddie bowled superbly on his return with Top Cat and Hoggy doing well in support.

West Indies 220 & 341
Cricket Web XI 319 & 215

West Indies won by 27 runs

Man of the match: Wavell Hinds

Good bowling in the first innings, but Lara and co. undid us in the second. Krkode and Blewy batted very well in difficult conditions in the first innings, and PY did the same in the second. On the 4th day, the conditions turned to overcast and the ball was swinging. Hinds became an unlikely hero when he exploited these conditions. IMO we're still in good shape for the Test series, despite our recent struggles.

Breaking News : Investigation

The CWCBC has decided to launch an investigation into a possible match-fixing by Rik in conjunction with Marc71178 of the Cricket Web 'A' team. Marc was spotted at the game cheering on the English team and was pleased when Rik pulled his antics.

More news will be released as the story progresses.

Marc71178 laughs off the allegations and points out that Rik and himself have never been able to agree on anything, so to suspect they combined to fix a cricket match is stupid.

He also points out that that is a nice leather jacket that Rik is wearing.

In response to Marc71178's comments, the CWCBC stated, "The fact that they are the seeming least likely to commit such a injustice only increases suspicion that they did."

No response from the accused as yet.

1st Test - CW XI v England

Welcome one and all to the first Test of this five-match series between the Cricket Web XI and England. England enter the series on a high, after winning two of their last three games against the CW XI, including the Natwest final. In a press statement yesterday, Rich_2001 said:

"It was definitely a disappointing result, but it's in the past now. We've put that behind us and we're ready to continue playing some competitive cricket."

This game bears special interest for Rich_2001 as it is his first time captaining the Cricket Web XI team in a Test match.

The conditions here are gloomy. There's no immediate forecast of rain, but there is cloud cover which should assist the seamers. The Cricket Web XI have brought in the extra batsman in Krkode who replaces Hoggy in the team. Their lineup is as follows:-

Broncoman, Peter Young, Cloete, Rich_2001 (capt), Blewy, Krkode, Andre (wk), Mr Mxyzptlk, Lucky Eddie, Top Cat, Neil Pickup.

It will be interesting to see how much turn Pickup can exploit on this pitch. He had a fine ODI debut series with the ball and will be hoping to carry that form into the Tests.

England have made a few changes from their Natwest team. Adam Hollioake, Paul Collingwood and the retired Gough and Knight are out and Butcher, Hussain, Hoggard and Harmison are in. The team is:-

Marcus Trescothick, Michael Vaughan (capt), Mark Butcher, Nasser Hussain, Graham Thorpe, Andrew Flintoff, Chris Read (wk), Ashley Giles, Steve Harmison, Matthew Hoggard, James Anderson.

Thorpe enters the series in the best form of all the English batsmen. He scored that fine hundred in the Natwest final which helped rescue his team to a game-winning score.

The batsmen are out in the middle for the toss with Sparky Peterson.
---

Rich_2001: Heads.
<lands tails>
Sparky: What have you decided to do Nass... I mean Michael?
Vaughan: We'll have a bat first. The pitch looks as though it will deteriorate later in the game and I think that if we get 350-400 runs, we have an excellent shot at winning this game.

---
The batsmen are set. Trescothick takes guard as Asoka DeSilva and Steve Bucknor take their positions. It will Lucky Eddie who will take the new ball...

Three slips, a gully, a short leg, a cover point, a fine leg, a midoff and an extra cover. Here he comes...

That is a lot of bowling. Ouch.

133.4 Pickup to Read, three runs, Great save by Peter Young 3 instead of 4
Seen that somewhere before..

Neil Pickup looks very upset right now. He has some angry words for Mr Mxyzptlk as Rich_2001 runs up to him to calm him down.

Breaking News - Neil Pickup fined

The Match Referee, Clive Lloyd has issued a 200 pound fine for use of profanities against his team-mate.

No statement from Neil Pickup or Rich_2001 on the issue as of yet.

Never really looked in it, very poor fielding display in the 2nd innings. Oh well, as the song goes "things can only get better"

:)

PS 'Colourful' language has always been a favourite of yours on the cricket field hasn't it Neil ;)
