1st Test - CW XI v England
Welcome one and all to the first Test of this five-match series between the Cricket Web XI and England. England enter the series on a high, after winning two of their last three games against the CW XI, including the Natwest final. In a press statement yesterday, Rich_2001 said:
"It was definitely a disappointing result, but it's in the past now. We've put that behind us and we're ready to continue playing some competitive cricket."
This game bears special interest for Rich_2001 as it is his first time captaining the Cricket Web XI team in a Test match.
The conditions here are gloomy. There's no immediate forecast of rain, but there is cloud cover which should assist the seamers. The Cricket Web XI have brought in the extra batsman in Krkode who replaces Hoggy in the team. Their lineup is as follows:-
Broncoman, Peter Young, Cloete, Rich_2001 (capt), Blewy, Krkode, Andre (wk), Mr Mxyzptlk, Lucky Eddie, Top Cat, Neil Pickup.
It will be interesting to see how much turn Pickup can exploit on this pitch. He had a fine ODI debut series with the ball and will be hoping to carry that form into the Tests.
England have made a few changes from their Natwest team. Adam Hollioake, Paul Collingwood and the retired Gough and Knight are out and Butcher, Hussain, Hoggard and Harmison are in. The team is:-
Marcus Trescothick, Michael Vaughan (capt), Mark Butcher, Nasser Hussain, Graham Thorpe, Andrew Flintoff, Chris Read (wk), Ashley Giles, Steve Harmison, Matthew Hoggard, James Anderson.
Thorpe enters the series in the best form of all the English batsmen. He scored that fine hundred in the Natwest final which helped rescue his team to a game-winning score.
The batsmen are out in the middle for the toss with Sparky Peterson.

Rich_2001: Heads.

Sparky: What have you decided to do Nass... I mean Michael?
Vaughan: We'll have a bat first. The pitch looks as though it will deteriorate later in the game and I think that if we get 350-400 runs, we have an excellent shot at winning this game.

The batsmen are set. Trescothick takes guard as Asoka DeSilva and Steve Bucknor take their positions. It will Lucky Eddie who will take the new ball...
Three slips, a gully, a short leg, a cover point, a fine leg, a midoff and an extra cover. Here he comes...
