Awesome win guys, stoked that we clinched it, was looking touch and go but some Blackman brilliance got us home. Top stuff.

Good to see guys with decent FC experience steping up straight away in Test and ODI cricket recently. Signs the system is working well to produce Test standard players.

Massive effect there to chase that type of total against the two Ms, though the pitch did look at tad seamer friendly rather then a turner.

Selectors learn from mistakes (Y). Now they just need to be kept on the sidelines..
Blackman & Kennett dominant
Inside word is Trav singe-handled pushed for his own dropping. Didn't want his Test stats to get any worse. Same reason why he doesn't play himself in OD matches after he has two bad games.

Webbers make good use of rainy fixture
3-day Tour Match - Cricket Web XI vs Sri Lanka Cricket XI - Bloomfield C&AC Ground

The scorned Cricket Web XI fast men staked a claim for spots in the Test team with strong performances in a drawn result against Sri Lanka Cricket XI. Both Greg Thomas and Travis Demeza took 5-wicket hauls in the match, and the top order got invaluable batting practice heading into the second Test.

After the first 3 hours of the game were lost to rain, CW XI skipper Neil Pickup wasted no time in inserting the opposition when he won the toss. A surprisingly bouncy surface, freshened up by the rain, proved lively early on and the Webber pacers were a handful for the opening batsmen. It was an interesting competition, as Mahela Udawatte tried to combat the conditions with some aggressive strokeplay and flashed Demeza over third man for six in the second over. His pleasure was shortlived, however, and both he and his partner Paranavitana were out for minor starts.

Bad light and rain continued to tease the players, but CW XI pressed on the better, whilst Demeza and Thomas operated well in bursts between the showers. At stumps SLC XI slumped to 107-5 from the 22 overs they faced on the day. And on day two Demeza truly impacted. The ball consistently flew away to the boundary as his tearaway pace demanded, but he managed to hold his nerve and use the tricky pitch to his advantage. His first wicket of the day was that of Angelo Mathews for 41, then he took the next 4 in quick time as the hosts lost 5 wickets for 18 runs to end 177 all out.

CW XI then seemed intent on proving that the pitch was far from impossible to score on. After Mørk was dropped first ball behind the stumps, they settled in with ease against an experienced attack. Pete Young was reprieved on 32, and later brought up a workmanlike 50 from 102 balls. Mørk joined him soon after and together they pushed the score to 154 before separation. Thilan Thushara caught a thin edge of Mørk's bat and sent him on his way for 62. He was replaced by a confident Stephen Young, who strolled to 20 at stumps.

CW XI batted on on the final morning, content to get their eye in and acclimatise to Sri Lankan pitches. Pete Young celebrated an invaluable hundred and then switched to one-day mode in attempts to throw his wicket away. But the Sri Lankans dropped him three times before he was allowed to make way for Chris Butler, caught behind for 116. Stephen Young then accelerated past his half-century while Butler settled in with some good offside strokeplay. By the time Young picked out Paranavitana at mid-off, CW XI had amassed 313 and declared with 70 overs left in the game.

The time was used initially to take another look at the pair of Demeza and Thomas, and again they were on point early on. The latter bowled Udawatte first ball, and Demeza had Paranavitana dropped an over later. The batsmen then recovered some ground and SLC XI were well placed on 101-1 at the end of the 30th over. They faced the spin duo of Pickup and Richards, with neither bowler yet appearing confident in the conditions. Pickup got the benefit of a bit of luck to account for Kandamby (45), caught-and-bowled, and some brilliance from Ash Chaulk to pull off a one-handed stumping of Kapugedera (0) later in the over. Richards then produced a lovely arm ball to remove Paranavitana (47) and the innings began to wobble.

The home side stretched into the final session without further loss, but less than two hours short of the end they were shaken up by the returning Thomas. His pace and aggression pushed the batsmen back, after they had grown accustomed the slow bowlers, and in the space of 12 balls Thomas took 3 wickets to tempt final hour drama. For his 5th wicket of the innings he found the top edge of a Mathews hook shot and his partner in crime, Demeza took a good catch at fine leg. The tail was exposed and there for the breaking, but the Webbers could only prise out one more wicket before SLC XI closed the game with an honourable draw.

S. Lanka Cricket XI 1st Innings 177 all out
Mathews 41, Silva J.K. 41, Demeza 7-76, Thomas 2-48
Cricket Web XI 1st Innings 313 for 3 dec.
Young P.E. 116, Young S. 78, Thushara 2-79, Mathews 1-46
S. Lanka Cricket XI 2nd Innings 240 for 9
Paranavitana 47, Silva L.P.C. 47, Thomas 5-53, Richards 2-41
Match Drawn.

Good to see Thomas and Demeza taking wickets and putting pressure on the guys ahead of them for these conditions. S Young in the runs is also a good sign, especially as he shown he can bat in the middle order or top order.

Webbers dominate murky opening day
2nd Test - Day 1 - Cricket Web XI vs Sri Lanka - P. Saravanamuttu Stadium

Weather was again a factor on the opening day of the second Test match, in Colombo. But after Sri Lanka won the toss and batted, Cricket Web XI dominated proceedings and took 7 cheap wickets by the close. Malinga Warnapura played an outstanding innings at the top of the order, but got little support and Sri Lanka barely limped past 200 by the time the day was called.

The start was delayed by 12 minutes due to a drizzle before the toss, and after 2 overs persistent rain called an early lunch. In the second session the Webbers focused their attack with the new ball and quickly prised out three wickets to leave Sri Lanka on 26-3. Thilan Samaraweera endured a troubled baptism at the crease and only got as far as 24 before he was caught at a well-placed legslip to give David Kennett a third wicket. Warnapura soldiered on to his 50 and beyond, and his partner Dilshan tried his best to give him support.

Dilshan was dropped on 13 by Blackman at short leg - the simplest of chances - and then the bowler Pickup dropped Warnapura on 79. But the opener's luck finally ran short when he chopped a length ball from Borcich onto his stumps, due an apparent lapse in concentration. The last of the specialist batsmen, Dilshan carelessly presented mid-off with a catch, attempting to loft a Richards delivery over the top. The day was then all but won by Kennett, who bowled Chaminda Vaas (2) to continue his dramatic career revival. He finished with 4 for 57 in the bag and 11 wickets in less than 3 innings since his Test recall.

Sri Lanka 1st Innings 201-7 (73 overs)
BSM Warnapura 85, TM Dilshan 43, TT Samaraweera 24, HAPW Jayawardene 8*, M Muralitharan 1*
DM Kennett 4-57, NA Borcich 2-48

Sri Lanka lead by 201 runs with 3 first innings wickets in hand.

Devastation! - Webbers slump to historical low
2nd Test - Day 2 - Cricket Web XI vs Sri Lanka - P. Saravanamuttu Stadium

Only 30 overs were needed by Sri Lanka to demolish Cricket Web XI for an all-time low of 70. Shockwaves were sent around the cricketing world as the Webbers had no answers for a balanced and disciplined attack. The top order struggles continued for the tourists and amazingly only Andrew Cloete managed to score in double figures.

The day started well through the clinical aggression of Nick Borcich. He was on target to take the last 3 Sri Lankan wickets and complete a 5-wicket haul. Sri Lanka added 21 to the overnight total and were all out for 222. Wicket continued to clatter as the Webbers took their turn at the crease. The struggling openers, despite their impressive play in the recent tour match, looked completely out of sorts and perished for single digit scores to Amerasinghe.

Cloete looked in good nick early into his innings, but on the verge of lunch he lost his most accomplished teammate, Butler, for 12. The left-hander made a bad error of judgement and for the second time in as many innings he was lbw to Mendis. CW XI went to lunch on 37-3 and in trouble, but not yet in crisis. What followed in the second session was far more spectacular. First Will Kerr (6) flashed at a wide ball to grant Amerasinghe a third wicket, and first Test hero Alex Blackman (7) clipped Vaas into the lap of Muralitharan at midwicket.

All hope remained with Andrew Cloete, who had advanced into the 30s, but his was the prized scalp that fell an over later. Muralitharan drew the great man into a rash sweep shot and caught the top-edge that flew to an unlikely legslip, in Amerasinghe. Cloete walked disheartened for 33. His replacement, Dave Richards failed to survive the over. Four balls into his innings he was snapped up at short leg. Mike Wilson poked about for a few deliveries and he too fell to the pressures of the close field. Wilson pushed forward with hard hands and Murali got his third wicket when bat-pad completed a simple dismissal. At 66-8 CW XI were still 13 short of the historical low they'd registered against England some years back.

But for all his pride, captain Neil Pickup was unable to avoid a humiliating new record. On 1 he pushed at a ball angled across him by Vaas, and was caught neatly in the slip cordon. All out for 70. The Sri Lankan second innings then started before tea, and the hosts had a lead of 152 and started confidently in turn. However, Warnapura failed to build on his first innings form, and was caught at slip for 6. After the shine disappeared, the spinners tried to apply pressure with an old ball and a tight field. But Sri Lanka still managed to push their lead past 200 without further loss.

Not until the 29th over did CW XI strike again. Michael Vandort received a snorter from Richards, over the wicket, that bounced out of the rough and hit the glove before Mørk made no mistake behind the wicket. The wicketkeeper was again called into action to take stunning one-handed catch to his right, and at the fall of Mahela Jayawardene (12) the game was alive once again. Richards bowled Samaraweera (4) around his legs with another lovely delivery, and truly stirred up the contest with the wicket of Sangakkara in his next over. The Sri Lankan 'keeper had just raised a calm half-century, but he was outfoxed by a quicker delivery from the left-armer and trapped in front of offstump.

At stumps then Sri Lanka were 139-5, having lost 3 for 29 late in the day. And at the end of day two 25 wickets have already fallen and though Sri Lanka are well ahead, CW XI have fought back well to potentially set up a dramatic third day.

Sri Lanka 1st Innings 222 ao (83.3 overs)
BSM Warnapura 85, TM Dilshan 43, TT Samaraweera 24
NA Borcich 5-57, DM Kennett 4-69

Cricket Web XI 1st Innings 70 ao (30 overs)

Sri Lanka 2nd Innings 139-5 (45 overs)
