*Official* Bangladesh in England

Hoping that Bangladesh can put up a better fight than they did in the Asia Cup. Really thought they were taking good strides until that tournament, when they mainly seemed to rely on Tamim. They need their middle and lower order to step up a lot more, because their bowling attack is going to struggle to keep England under 300.

Unless Mashrafe REALLY takes to captaincy and Shakib REALLY takes to not being captain.
i know that Shakib wasn't playing, and that Mashrafe's figures were pretty good - but DOH!

How can these guys improve? I mean really improve. They seem to be going backwards. Very sad.

Not sure how you derive going backwards from their recent Tests, but do tell.
I thought they showed signs of being competitive against India and England at home this year (which made their Asia Cup performance a surprise), and I was surprised at how the middle and lower order fell over in the tests after what I thought was an improving performance in NZ. But they are now just going back to their old ways where they can't compete for any period of the game. Making Zim look really good actually.

So you obviously missed them taking it to day 5 at Lords then?

OK they capitulated at OT when the sun went in, but still far more competitive than they used to be.

Trott recalled :)

Bopara just hit 168 against West Indies A though, so no doubt he'll be back soon

Agreed - but with the Asia Cup and now this warm up hiding - I fear it's back to the old ways. But I hope not. I would LOVE Bangladesh to finally beat England. Can't believe they are the only team to not suffer that fate yet.

Impressive enough today in a 141-run win over Middlesex. The home team had only four or five first-team regulars, but a win at 'Headquarters' will no doubt give the tourists a boost. Looks as if Mortaza is starting to run into form as well.

The BCB pulle a PCB!

What did poor Shakib do wrong??
He was clearly the ideal man for the job.. His batting is hardly a thing to worry about...he is a bowling all rounder and he is by far the best Bangladeshi bowlers, perhaps the best left arm spinner in the world today and he is pretty consistent too..

This is a big step backwards for Bangladesh...

Masrafe is clearly not fit.. he was horrendous in the Asia Cup.

Bangladesh's performance in the Asia Cup did not surprise me..they have always struggled in Sri Lanka...they are at their best when playing at home...
and surprised me in England...the collapse in the second test was just plain brilliant seam bowling..Teams like Pakistan and West Indies would have collapsed as well on that day against Anderson.

Shakib is a fine all-rounder, but he hasn't impressed as a captain, even making allowances for a struggling side - and it seems to have begun to affect his batting. If there's no specialist batsman thought suitable to captain (Ashraful has been tried, and I wouldn't burden Tamim at this stage), then it seems right to give it back to Mortaza, if he's fit of course.

It was Shakib who wanted a little break from Captaincy to figure out his batting form =)! This Mortaza being the captain is a temporary thing and will not stick for long. As far as I know, it is just for this series and will revert back in August.

His batting is a thing to worry about - it would be a great thing for Bangladesh if he was doing as well with the bat as he was a year or so ago (the NZ test hundred as well). Their middle order has a problem for them recently and an in form Shakib would surely help them>

Yes an inform Shakib with the bat will surely help...but so will an inform Ashraful, Imrul Kayes, and every other batsman in the team basically...so why all the focus on Shakib??

At least he is adding some value in the team with the bat.. What value is Ashraful or Aftab adding??

I dont understand the Shakib hate though...What did he do wrong as a captain? Umm this is Bangladesh we are talking about...you dont sack captains after 0-2 series defeats...especially when the 0-2 defeats actually showed signs of improvement when compared to 0-2 defeats which used to end in 3 days a year ago.

Tactical blunders/selection issues are human errors that every captain is prone to. Ponting picked a 4 man pace attack against India in Perth in 07..bad decision in hindsight..Its part of your growth as a captain..

If as Trigger Tiger says it is indeed temporary, thats good, because I really liked his attitude as a captain on and off the field.

Because Shakib was looking very consistent for a while there and averaging around 34-35 in tests and ODI's for a while - something not many Bangladeshi batsmen manage. Would be great if their best spin bowler could manage batting stats like that as well.

Thought Shakib made some very questionable choices as captain, yet as we know, he is still very young and inexperienced for an international captain and will no doubt learn from the errors he did make. Unfortunately, with Bangladesh having so few experienced players around the squad to help him make choices, offer words of advice, it was pretty much down to him on the field, and he didn't cut it, at this stage.

Now do you persevere with him, hoping he does indeed improve with time, or do you release some of that pressure and allow him to perform in the all-rounders role, probably where Bangladesh need him most. He is a pivotal member of the bowling attack, and a batsman with plenty of potential, he has enough on his plate trying to juggle his own game and get that in order.

Mortaza is an experienced player and if he is fit and worth his place in the side, I don't think it's a bad option for the time being.

See I dont disagree that Shakib made questionable moves...but who doesnt?
The only way he will learn is by keeping at it.

Not Terrible
I've been head of the Tamim bus for quite a while but yeah Bangladesh just need the middle order to capitalize on what the top 3 give them at the start of the game. Kayes is playing to the best of his abillity, Siddique is maturing and Tamim is a gun. Shakib and Rahim need to come to the party.

Also want to see Mortaza bowl like hes capable of.
