No worries. :)

Re: Klinger, with pasag's thoughts on this one. I didn't go today but 150 run is a decent effort and he's showed the SA batsmen what they should have done. Mind you, whilst I'm sure he batted well (looked good yesterday) but, really, someone had to score on that pitch.

Hopefully he gets some support. Fergie is due to hit his straps and the openers got to 55 at least (more than they did last year!). Playing indoor with Callum's cousin tonight, I'll see how he's doing. :D

Redbacks

International Captain
Managed to head out to the Adelaide oval today. Klinger played very well, solid defensively, and was able to form good parterships with Manou, Cleary and Cullen. 64, 32 and unbeaten for 60odd IIRC. This is something I have not seen at many Redbacks games, but the conditions were not spectacular for bowling. Harwood really put in for Victoria and was the pick of the bunch for me today.

Having a composed player at the other end was good to see. We do score very slowly, but I think the Vics hit the right areas, but were let down by unimaginative captaincy. Klinger cashed in on this several times, prodding into gaps left open for him with ease. Also 6th ball of the over Vic would send Square leg to the boundry and bowl a bouncer. Seemed too predictable, but perhaps part of a longer plan.

Manou, the usual positive cricket, but we score 0 runs of good balls! I.e. a straightish ball waist hieght, only mid wicket on the leg side and we play a block straight back to the bowler. Compare this with the Vics late showing, they scored from nearly all these opportunities, put this down to form + ability I think. Great 150* only time he looked shaky was on 87* uppish drive lucky it went just in the gap. On 96 lucky harwood gave him a juicy wide to ease to the 100. In the 120's he nicked on but it fell 1m short of 1st, nothing carried all day really.

So finally we declared on 7/357. Victoria finished 1/51 but this doesn't tell any of the story. I presume in the rush for runs Jewell and Rogers came out to attack and he was flying but:
first over rogers inside edge just misses the stumps 4
3rd over tait bowls to Jewell plays across the line of the edge almost carries to midwicket
rogers nicks one doesn't carry to slip
then plays a big drive massive nick through 3rd slip:@
Jewell finally got justice, good ball , poor shot
Hodge first ball against Cullen nicks in between keeper and first slip. Definitely should have been taken!

So I think they could be 3 down, with Hussey the remaining danger man. Instead a quick slap tomorrow morning and they will get the chance to bowl 50-60 overs to us. Vistoria's top 4 looks very good with Jewell, Rogers, Hodge and Hussey IMO

Had an ordinary season last year for Woodville despite playing in a premiership winning side and, I believe, is injured right now.
He played for SA 2nds v NSW 2nds. Didn't bat in the first dig and then got injuried and didn't bat in the 2nd dig as well. So he was fit, but got injuried.

Good signs for him I guess he playing 2nds. But that might have more to do with lack of depth and probably talent coming through.

3 Wickets for Cullen, has he been bowling well? (Or is this not televised anywhere?)
No Shield games are televised other than the final; even us Foxtel viewers only get the one day comp. We've had a couple of people in this thread actually go to that game on various days though so someone might be able to fill us in later.

That's so ****, nice way to keep kids coming to cricket ahead of the football codes.
It's tempting to say that it's only the one-day stuff that gets the kids involved but, really, it was when Channel 9 used to televise Sheffield Shield games live that I started to get heavily into cricket. One of my earliest cricket memories is watching Hookesy and Joe Scuderi take SA to a 400-run day when I was a kid. Or watching Paul Nobes belt the living daylights out of some poor bowler.

Awesome that Carseldine made 100!! Symonds 70 odd too, awesome!

Carseldine MUST play in the next Shield match now. I always say it, but surely Doran must go and bring in another batter, that man has to be Carseldine.

Might be Symonds' last game for QLD before he heads of to India, but glad he got one of his better scores for us in the process. Always love beatin NSW. Disappointed the game wasn't at the 'Gabba as I would have gone, but nice move from QLD cricket to move games to other venues than Brisbane.

Quality knock from Leeca. I can't help but wonder what his record would be like if he'd stayed fit and not been ****ed around by the selectors. Has absolutely destroyed grade cricket over the last two seasons.

I see Bailey in the runs again. If he keeps this up, surely he's got to be in contention for higher cricket?

I think he needs to make more big scores, from memory I reckon he wouldn't have more than about six FC centuries and unless you are a "wonderkid" so to put it the Aussie selectors have shown that test cricket is a long way away for someone with his numbers.

Bailey needs to start converting his 70s in 130+ first. I fully expect to see him do it in the near future though, love the guy.

FFS it annoys me to see Hopes at the top of the order, especially when we've a specialist opener in Moller, batting in a position where Hopes would probably best be suited. Kinda glad that he failed again today.
