*Official* Australia Tour of West Indies 2025

So Chase is a Mike Brearley type specialist captain? Except he doesn't even captain Barbados in FC cricket (or the WI whiteball sides)?
To be fair to him, he did captain us in a few white ball games before.

But his selection was based on a test given to a shortlist of players. He got the best score.

They ignore the current skipper of the champion FC team in the region — Imlach, who is also in the test squad.

3 tests v Australia, 2 test tour of India and a 2 test tour of New Zealand before the end of the year.

Nice baptism for Chase as captain.

I wonder what type of pitches we'll get for this series? Seam friendly conditions will play to their pace bowling strength and make batting chancy. Australia's batting is unsettled and we don't have Smith for the first test at least. I'm feeling less confident of our chances in this series against the WI as I've been at any time since the 90s. I see one poster here has picked a WI win and that wouldn't surprise.

Our batting is a bit of a lottery with all the changes, although let's face it the likelihood is it remains bad.

Our best chance is usually seam friendly conditions guaranteeing we will trouble the opposition batsmen and then hoping that either one of our batsmen plays an outstanding innings or a few get 50s.

That's how we won at the Gabba, beat England in Grenada etc.

The reality is the Kensington Oval pitch is quite hard to predict these days. It could well be slow and take spin. But I've also seen it give extra bounce for the bowlers recently as well. So we'll have to wait and see.

So finally Labuschagne is dropped after one of the leanest periods an Aussie top order bat has ever had...

So why is he still in the squad. Give him a complete break and let him prepare for the Shield season as Qld Captain. Hopefully he can then be back for the Ashes

Aussie middle order confirmed as Green, Head, Inglis and Webster. Unfortunately none of them should bat higher than 5 or 6 so it'll be a lottery as to who bats 3 and 4

Wonder if @Gob and co will admit they were wrong about Marnus or carry on insisting he was the best option

Or maybe it will have to wait until after Inglis averages 40+ over the next 12 months

That article also mentions that they're considering having Smith play in a splint (needed for eight weeks) for the second test 'if he can tolerate it'. That's a really silly idea, they'll do anything to not make changes. They do realise he'll retire at some point?

He's already said he's retiring at the end of the Ashes. be good way to go out, straight after another 5-0 triumph.
The bowlers may have a 5-0 in them, but do the batsmen? The fact Smith playing against the Windies in a splint is even being considered is pretty damning evidence of the options available (or lack of).
