Yeah, Green seems a bit high at 3, but given their options currently (or, at least, their unwillingness to explore other options), I guess it makes sense. His stiffness around his front pad early in his innings doesn't exactly inspire confidence if we lose an opener early, but then this experience will prove fruitful for him when he is scoring 4 centuries during another clean sweep in The Ashes at the end of the year.
I do have concerns about Green transferring his domestic scoring internationally. People are quick to rubbish him even though he's the only up-and-coming talent to have put on big runs in the Shield (though criticism of his lack of strike rotation is on point). But a guy of his size is going to give the bowlers a target to work with.

Green at 3 feels weird unless smith has said he's gonna play for a few more years. 12 months ago we where moving mountains to make him the long term #4 FFS

They weren't exactly planning to have Green be the #4 though. He was going to be Warner's replacement until Smith insisted on opening, and then they were ready to move everyone around again for the BGT before Green got injured.

I don't really believe that Green in the top 3 is going to work but they seem pretty convinced about it.

He was never going to be Warner's replacement. That was pretty much just an idea to shove him in the team without omitting anyone else.

This is a pretty good chance for WI to make a statement. Australia are not coming to the Caribbean at a position of strength, given their WTC final defeat at Lords to the Proteas and the absence of a few experienced players. I can see Shamar, Seales, etc. causing problems for the Aussies, but batting needs improvement. In the past, it seems they've been caught between playing too attritional in nature (case in point: Kraigg Brathwaite) that they let the opposition dictate the terms of the match, or they get out playing mindlessly after getting a good start. Have to find the right balance.

Sorry, I don't really understand. If they were going to get him to open after Warner retired, that would have made him Warner's replacement.

My point was really just that they weren't exactly trying that hard to make him the #4, it just worked out that way because of Smith deciding he wanted to try opening. Getting Green to bat at #3 now Smith is happy to stay at #4 again seems consistent with their thinking the entire time.
