By 'absolute heat' you mean mid 130s? That's what he was clocking against SL. Didn't think he bowled that well either, but WI's specialist T20 pace options are thin on the ground, though the surfeit of allrounders helps offset that.
He can still bowl mid 140's, but I agree he was meh against SL. He's basically back because Oshane Thomas won't take his fitness seriously and has not pushed on.

Strong squad by Windies. On Paper they look superior to Australia with bowling perhaps weak link. Good to see Oshane Thomas back
Yep insane batting strength and hitting power. I'd say only England can compete on that front. But our bowling is weak IMHO, we have a lot of work to do to. Of course Narine might return later in the year also which would add more depth and improve the spin options somewhat.

My guess at an XI

Lewis
Simmons
Gayle
Hetmeyer
Pooran (wk)
Pollard (c)
Russell
Allen
Bravo
Walsh Jr/Hossein/Sinclair
Edwards/Thomas/McCoy

Great XI but both Pooran & Hetmeyer must face more balls I think to leave maximum impact. England opens with Buttler in T20 for perhaps same reason.
Lewis
Gayle
Pooran
Hetty
Russell
Pollard
Allen
Bravo
Walsh Jr (wrist spinner)
Oshane
Edwards/McCoy

Enough depth in batting with Bravo at no 8 & plenty of hitters up front. Gayle can cause mayhem in Powerplay & will get time as well.
Lots of bowling options.

2nd person now to mention the IPL in an actual cricket discussion. Me just sitting here trying not to piss myself laughing.
?

It's closer to T20Is than the vast majority of FC/LA games are to Test/ODI cricket. Perfectly good data point. Even more so when you consider games will be played in similar conditions.

I never really used to follow it, but COVID's made me do that and it seems like the standard's gone way up from the early 2010s. Defs higher than the other T20 leagues around the world.

I agree with your line up tbh, it has a better balance and gives Hety and Pooran the chance to shine. They do seem to really like Simmons though, so not sure they'll leave him out.

Narine coming into that lineup ahead of Walsh Jr for the World cup possibly also, which would further strengthen the lineup.

If I was going down to the park to hit some cricket balls with my mates* (not that I would) I'm not going to be trying at the same capacity as I would in an actual game of cricket that matters.

Of course the other side of this coin is the question of whether T20 cricket ever matters. Even if it is the T20 "world cup" (lol).

Thanks for clarifying which Walsh Jnr you were picking. I would've assumed you were picking the wicket keeper Walsh Jnr without your clarification.

Pretty sure you're trolling but if you think players don't take the biggest payout of their year seriously you're quite mistaken. They were willing to risk COVID and getting shut out of their country for it after all.

I didn't watch a ball of that series tbh. I was going off what I'd seen in county cricket. It'd be a shame if he finally started actually declining and slowing down now when he's back internationally.

On the very few highlights I've seen of him recently in County with the speedgun he was generally timed a bit either side of 85 mph. I did think that some people here were exaggerating his pace a little.

Surely we're not claiming that 39 year old Fidel Edwards is really bowling genuine heat

that would really be something if true

Whatever it takes!!!

Doing some reading and apparently green's non-selection wasn't down to his bowling stuff, just didn't make the squad, understandable but don't get why he's not ahead of hacks like D'Arcy short and proven failures like Wade.

Just looking over the squad again and am really surprised by inglis's
Omition, we've been desperate for a #5/6 keeper bat for so long, and when one gets dropped into our lap we completely ignore it, and instead we've picked 3 keepers who are all full time openers in T20 for a middle order role.

Yeah I first watched him in a T20 in India. He looked alright was a bit undercooked but potential was there. He must've improved further perhaps.

I haven't followed it much lately but last time I checked Wade was a gun white ball bat

Should have elaborated my b. Wade's a gun white ball opener but his numbers down the order are horrible, which is what hes there to do from what I can see, no chances he's the 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice opener is that squad. Same story with Carey.

Ah of course. I think Wade could be the 3rd choice opener, or even push one of Warner or Finch down which has happened in the past with some success
