*Official* 3rd Test at Edgbaston

voges could score 25 and 10 and odds will be 1.01 or 51.00 depending on the result
a win will certainly help his chances but I don't know it will make quite that much difference. I hope he goes out and cracks a ton with Pup, but they love themselves some SOS so a twin failure might give them the excuse.

Why the hell are England even looking at Finn? Just when you think they've turned a corner they do what they've always done and go back to old failures. Footitt must be cursing the selectors, probably the best bowler in the country bar Anderson and Broad when hes on song and can't even get a look in because he doesn't play for the right side. If not Footitt then Rushworth, Brooks, Plunkett, Harris-pick a name, they're all better than Finn.

How has Finn managed to overtake Plunkett? Plunkett only lost his place in the side because he was injured and since then he's bowled far better than Finn.

Baffling. Australia would be chuffed seeing Finn bowling.

In fairness Finn's been in the two previous squads hasn't he? Whether you think it's right or wrong he's obviously seen as the next cab on the rank, and at least we're seeing consistent selection instead of the nonsense served up in 2013.

Besides, maybe he'll have an Anderson-esque 2nd coming now that he doesn't have a highly regarded Australian coach destroying his action.

England's batting woes: Zaremba's Verdict

1. Lyth. Some of our latitudinally challenged contributors may try to tell us that this man is the real deal, but for me he cuts a desperately unconvincing figure at the top of the order. Now arriving at the end of his Test career.

2. Cook. Doing ok; has had a good summer; sweats little.

3. Bell. Happy with the ginge at 3. Should have been there for a while, he ought to have the game for it. Rumours of his demise as an England batsman surely are premature, he's the best player we have.

4. Root. There's one single spot in this England side that ain't broke - and that's number 5. I don't know why we'd want to mess around with Root. Let him bat at 5, FFS. By all means rearrange the deckchairs above him if you wish, but please don't tinker with the one thing that's actually proven to work.

5. Bairstow. Again our tundra-dwelling cousins might encourage us to have faith in this chap, but he's got RavBop written all over him for me. Promising county talent but suffers from a technique that has already been thoroughly exposed at Test level.

6. Stokes. Doing well, needs to up his game as a bowler but you can't fault his batting provided he RUNS HIS ****ING BAT IN. Muppet.

Worried that they'll pick Marsh and he'll smoke it to all parts on the cannabis-lamp pitch

Judging by the forecast we might lose a few overs after tea, but with no rain the rest of the week and tomorrow's rain showers at worst, should be good for 3 results from 3!

Moving Root to 4 is great for English cricket, the lad can bat, move him up a spot, it's not premature IMO because he's in England and in form. Australia don't seem to worry his temperament. It's good to see from the old foe that they've done this.
