New Zealand Contract List 2011/12

McCullum and Woodcock, I imagine. Don't really think Woodcock will get a contract but he probably has more chance of playing for NZ this year than Boult.
Agreed. But I think we'd be kidding ourselves if we were to expect all of Martin, Southee, McKay, Mills and Bennett to get through a year of cricket unscathed.

Selectors obviously feel that NMac can offer as much with the bat as Franklin in the latter stages of an ODI innings.

Surely Franklin deserves a contract over the likes of Woodcock and Watling? Pretty ridiculous.

Yep.

I'm a bit surprised to see Flynn, Broom and Watling all pick up contracts. I don't see all three of them getting significant game time.
Obviously Daniel Flynn and Neil Broom will be vying it out for the presumably vacant number six spot in the test team. I know for a fact Broom was told only a few months ago that the selectors saw him as more of a test specialist at this stage, while it's pretty likely IMO that Flynn will make a return at some stage to the limited overs team.

Really shocked to see Franklin miss out but otherwise a fairly predictable list. Can't see why the likes of Flynn, Broom, Woodcock, Boult, Watling, etc. deserve a contract ahead of him. Probably even more surprising given another experienced batting all-rounder in Styris just retired; obviously keeping a similarly experienced player on the contract list wasn't in the selectors minds...

Very harsh on Franklin - he may not quite make it into the best 11 in either format but he is definitely in the top 20 players in the country and, if nothing else, is a useful and versatile reserve. Are they seriously rating him lower than all of Woodcock, Nicol, Flynn, Broom and Watling?? Most of those guys have barely played a match for NZ yet...

So I guess it's goodbye Franky - back to the green pastures of domestic cricket to score masses of runs and in a few years once he's past his best to get one more recall to the national team, just like Matthew Sinclair. Hooray.
