Well Gavaskar has been out first ball on quite a few occasions.
  • 1. Edgbaston July 1974
  • 2. Chinnaswami stadium vs Windies 1978 but it wasnt the first innings of the match.
  • 3. Eden Garden against Windies 1983
  • 4. Jaipur Feb 1987 vs Pakistan

That is three innings where he got out off the first ball of the match

  • Ganga went first ball vs Sri Lanka in 2001 but it wasnt the first innings of the match.
  • In June 2007 he went first ball against England at Riverside.
Thats just one innings as far as I can see.

Morrison went 1st ball of the match at AMI stadium Feb '75
Thats the only one in his career.

  • Warren Bardsley went first ball at Melbourne 1911 but he did not take first strike
  • And at Headingley in July 1926.

So I dont get it I am afraid. All of them dont seem to have multiple 1st ball (of the match) dismissals from what I can see.

They had scored centuries in the immediately preceding innings

But that is true only for three of them, not for Darren Ganga.
