IPL Corruption and Match-Fixing Investigations

This is what is stupid. The huge amounts of money some of these players on are supposed ensure this stuff doesn't happen, as it makes it crazy to risk losing your fat contract for some match-fixing payments.

Yet still these ****ers want more money?

GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!

Just a friendly reminder that pointing fingers, whether hypothetical or not, at specific players does have the potential to land the forum in hot water.

Please refrain from doing so. :)

I don't know if this is a windup or not, but the dealings with bookies back then were based on Warne and Mark Waugh providing pitch information to bookies. The reason that they escaped with a fine was that what they did was seen as being naivity rather than match fixing. There were others involved as well who escaped without a ban.

'Sif Warnie would ever do that. Passed me by too. Thanks DingDong.

To me it never rang true that Warne could be at the center of this for these reasons:

1) He appears to be enjoying captaincy of the RRs a lot;
2) The RRs are the least wealthy team and therefore there would not be as much opportunity/incentive to throw matches for bookies; and
3) Warne would know that a close eye is being kept on him because of his early career.

This list of 27 matchfixers, if it exists is going to have a similar consequences to the baseball positive steroid tests from 03.

For those not familiar with it, major league baseball conducted random drug tests in the early 2000's before performance enhancing drugs were illegal. There was a list of ~100 players who were found taking PED's. However, since it was not illegal and the tests were done in private the names were never officially released. However, someone has the list and ever so often, a name gets thrown out. Over the last 4-5 years about 10 of the games biggest stars have been "outed" as roid cheats. Along with the baseless accusations that goes on from time to time this has destroyed baseball's image.

IPL and the BCCI could be well on a similar path.

This story broke in indian media 3 days back and was promptly rubbished by mainstream media citing lack of credibility of 'source'.

Midday which 'broke' this story is for all purposes nothing more than a cheap tabloid. It has done breaking news before many of them proven to be utter rubbish.

Can we lock the thread please, now that what was said in the opening post has been disowned by even prominent news media?

Not Terrible
The National Enquirer won a Pulitzer in the States for jounalism. So na shouldn't just lock a site till the official report is concluded tbh.

All of this over an article the toilet paper masquerading as newspaper (Mid Day) published?

The bloody morons mention an international player who is a captain, which in 2009 could only be Warne.

Warne and his management should sue the hell out of Mid Day:dry:.

Surprised to see a moderator quote and back up someone's suggestion just before your post on this thread. Disappointing, tstl.

Not correct, a/ it can land the poster in hot water b/ it can land the forum in hot water if complaints are made and forum owner doesn't delete message.

Really seedy stuff this. The sad part is that now every one is gunning to get their share. Everyone from the income tax officials rushing to raid franchisee's offices to those at the top of the political food chain.

I don't think IPL is going to go away. Its too lucrative. The faces will change but the league and its corruption will remain.
