nah good on him, about time a former skipper stopped simping for duke ball heroes and put forward a real bowler or two, and i don't even agree on those two making it. wagner clearly the main kiwi in the running. Was interesting to watch McCullum say Boult and Southee should have been in the test team ahead of Anderson and Broad today. Pretty mis-guided one-eyedness I think ... those guys have produced in Australia in at least one test series, unlike our two.
Watling for the test team and Taylor in the ODI side are the two I'm outraged about!
Yeah but the way he showed up for the big series at home in tough batting conditions against Ind and Aus just shows what he could when he gave a ****. Some of the most pristinely talented batting I have ever seen and I say that as someone who watched almost every knock of Brian Lara, whom I still maintain is the best test batsman I have seen.a different take

i like it. also TIL kane and kohli have more tons than ab de villiers from a lot less tests. fmd that **** underdelivered in some ways.
yea but if we're playing this game then i can throw michael clarke in the yarn, who also scored more tons than all these blokes at half a run less than abdv.Yeah but the way he showed up for the big series at home in tough batting conditions against Ind and Aus just shows what he could when he gave a ****. Can't have Bumrah on the back of only 2 years of the decade IMO.a different take

Yep, I'd have been advocating Wagner's inclusion of all the NZ bowlers.nah good on him, about time a former skipper stopped simping for duke ball heroes and put forward a real bowler or two, and i don't even agree on those two making it. wagner clearly the main kiwi in the running.
AB did do it though. Clarke played equal great innings and equal cashing in innings but its the stuff where he went missing which makes it worst. Either way, I rate Clarke at that level below Lara-Sachin too tbh.yea but if we're playing this game then i can throw michael clarke in the yarn, who also scored more tons than all these blokes at half a run less than abdv.
My Test A-Team (min 5 years during the decade)
Amla - 49.96 with the bat (6695 runs)
Pujara - 49.48 with the bat (5740 runs)
Root - 48.41 with the bat (7359 runs)
Younis - 54.37 with the bat (4839 runs)
Chanderpaul - 60.33 with the bat (3198 runs)
Shakib - 42.52 with the bat (3147 runs), 31.97 with the ball (162 wickets)
Watling - 42.51 with the bat (3538 runs)
Cummins - 21.92 with the ball (139 wickets)
Herath - 26.41 with the ball (363 wickets)
Philander - 21.99 with the ball (220 wickets)
Rabada - 22.57 with the ball (190 wickets)
This can be improved by having ABdV (who is not in the "official" first XI) in it ahead of Pujara. My Test A-Team (min 5 years during the decade)

Clarke's career in hindsight looks kind of strange. A solid, mostly dependable Test batsman, especially at home, who for two years became basically every single great post-war batsman combined in terms of how he batted for those two years. I don't know of any other batsman except maybe Mohammed Yousuf whose otherwise solidly unremarkable career has one such glaring, transcendent peak in the middle of it which abruptly came and went.AB did do it though. So AB De Villiers doesn't even make the B team???!!!My Test A-Team (min 5 years during the decade)

Brendon McCullum was a decent keeper batsman, who then was an underperforming specialist batsman before having couple of years scoring an epic defensive triple hundred and lightning fast daddy 100s.Clarke's career in hindsight looks kind of strange. Very true - totally over-looked. A toss-up between Pujara and Root in who to replace him with. Went with Pujara as he had a better average and more hundreds during the period with fewer matches compared to Root, but could easily have Root instead. So AB De Villiers doesn't even make the B team???!!!
