ICC Best-Ever ODI Championship Rating Draft

International Captain
Kemar Roach (650) to complete my 11.

1. Tillakaratne Dilshan - 802
2. Shane Watson - 773
3. Virat Kohli (C) - 886
4. Shakib Al Hasan - 717
5. Michael Hussey - 857
6. Paul Collingwood - 697
7. Ben Stokes - 433
8. Courtney Browne - 243
9. Mitchell Johnson - 724
10. Kemar Roach - 650
11. Allan Donald - 794

Happy with the balance of the side, a strong batting unit and an excellent fielding side last but not least a bustling pace attack.

Cricketer Of The Year
If anyone remembers that "C'mon Aussie C'mon" jingle used by the World Series they might remember this lyric:

"Marsh is taking wickets, Hooksey's clearing pickets!"

WSC jingle "C'mon Aussie C'mon"

Packer endorsed XI

01 Romesh Kaluwitharana + 583
02 Simon Katich 634
03 Mohinder Amarnath 600
04 Stephen Waugh c 784
05 Jonty Rhodes 730
06 David Hookes 584
07 Shahid Afridi 673
08 Kapil Dev 849
09 Jason Holder 565
10 Roger Harper 689
11 Malcolm Marshall 891

Kapil & Malcolm to open. Afridi & Harper to form a spin combo on turning tracks with Holder, Amarnath & Waugh all in support. Batting stretches all the way down to 11 & contains fearsome strikers such as Kalu, Boom Boom, Kapil & Hooksey who will receive support from steadier hands such as Jimmy, Tugga, Jonty & Katich. The fielding unit would be quite efficient too, led by Rhodes & Harper. Fairly happy with the team.

Balance points - 61.

Lots of bowlers and lots of batsmen. Excellent mix of right and left handers throughout the batting order to mess up the bowlers. Love the side and got a captain who has won the only LO trophy for his country. Love the side.

Australia's Jimmy Maher (371).

Springbok & Kiwi Pâté XI

1. Herschelle Gibbs
2. Jesse Ryder 6
3. Colin Ingram
4. Brian Lara
5. Jimmy Maher
6. Brendon McCullum +
7. Chris Cairns 4
8. Nicky Boje 5
9. Richard Hadlee 1
10. Wasim Akram 2
11. Dale Steyn 3

In Batting order ... 750+574+492+909+371+695+638+594+923+851+746 = 7543 ( 47 remaining)

Dominated by Kiwis & South Africans with a single Aussie, West Indian and Pakistani.

Mouth watering bowling attack with Hadlee & Wasim to share the new ball. Steyn at first change, with Cairns and the underrated Boje in support. Jesse Ryder's useful mediums if the 6th bowler is required.

Batting wise, one word, 'deep' .. bats all the way down to 10 in Akram and Steyn isn't the worst no. 11 going around. Strong right/left combo up front in Gibbs & Ryder, the attacking Colin Ingram at 3, followed by the batting star Brian Lara. The real strength is the hard-hitting middle/lower order with McCullum & Cairns at 6 & 7 to put the icing on the cake. If needed Boje, who's batted at 3 for SA at 8, followed by the hard-hitting Hadlee at 9.

Still deciding between McCullum (with the gloves) or Lara as skipper.

Way too light on the batting mate...
Seems an alright configuration for an ODI team to me mate, several such configurations have been successful. A gun top 3 all of whom are capable of playing the long innings and have the innings revolve around them, two calm and classy solid middle order WC winning bats who played excellent roles in building the innings and staying on the crease during the middle overs and an explosive lower order that can come and provide the finish. Obviously not perfect by any standards but seems functional enough to me. Not really expecting anything much in this draft anyway, I spent highly on personal favourites and I can live with that.

Personally I would love to watch this team. Two of my all time favourite openers in ODIs, a number 3 that would dominate anyone, the electric Pakistani pace attack from the late 90s and dynamic characters who contributed in WC wins and clutch moments such as Bichel and Lehmann. They'll entertain the lot.

You're a tough taskmaster HB. He's got two of the best ODI openers of all-time, one of the best number 3s, followed by an incredibly underrated but effective no. 4 in Lehmann. Then some nice icing in the middle/lower order with Razzaq, Harvey & Bichel at 6, 7 & 8. The only slight weakness for mine is Mahanama @ 5.

9. Ajantha Mendis (4) (648)
10. Shoaib Akhtar (2) (699)
11. Geoff Allott (3) (626)

Feel like I made a couple of tactical blunders in picking that side, but otherwise I'm reasonably happy with that. Majid and Jayasuriya to get me off to a flyer, with Jones as the main gun. Taylor and Voges to accumulate with Jones in the middle order, and Maxwell and Smith to hit out at the end of the innings.

Bowling has variety if nothing else. Along with 8 reasonably solid bowling options which helps if one of my key bowlers gets tonked, in my main 4 options 've got an out and out gun (Imran), raw pace (Shoaib), great swing (Allott) and a spinner who can bowl anything (Mendis).

Gilly, while great at the role demanded by Australia back then, is essentially a 35+ avg. batsman. He is gonna run away with the game now and then but in an ATG side, you need more. Tresco was good but I wouldn't say among the ATGs again. Punter is the only one who is really ATG level greatness there. Lehmann again is OKish at best as a #4. That is why I feel it ain't the strongest he could have pulled out. Essentially, if he could have traded either of Harvey or Razzaq, preferably Harvey, for a batsman, I feel his side would be much better balanced.
