The Duh smiley went out of action in about mid-2004 - ie a couple of years before you joined.

Anyway Swann is a pretty damn good fingerspinner but not I don't think vastly above every other spinner to play for England since covered wickets and not even notably better than some. Good to have him performing well however, and long may it continue.

Big fan (he said climbing aboard the bandwagon ). Love English players who have a bit of a swagger (it's a very small list, in all honesty) and, better yet, perform to back it up. Ravi, take note.

What I will say is that he gets an awful lot of "proper" wickets; i.e. close catches, LBWs and clean bowleds. Very few of his scalps seem to be tailenders on the mow.

didn't know there ever was an actual Duh smiley. Beyond the ones that I use a lot, I just tend to type out smileys for whatever emotional flavour I'm trying to convey, regardless of whether they exist or not.

Yeah - the other day TMS were saying how much he's benefited from umpires being more willing to give those decisions nowadays.

Shame on you for not knowing the history of CW smilies pre-2006 tbh.

It's definitely a good point about the umpires being more willing to give LBW's to spinners, probably something that's come due to the invention of Hawkeye, as we've now got a clearer understanding of what deliveries are likely to hit the stumps. Swanny certainly wouldn't have picked up anywhere near as many wickets if it wasn't for that change in the game.
