Give Ponting A Bowl!

Mr. P

International Vice-Captain
:D Why not give Ponting more of a bowl? Or in the ODI's, bowl himself? He's good enough, who could forget when he dismissed Brian Lara in the VB series? Classic. Even Shane Warne thinks he's underrated. (At least that's what he said in his autobiography)

the reason is that he likes watching Brett lee obliterate the tail of many international teams in the ODI's :):):)

i also think he should be used a little more for his bowling, not too much though, we have some top quality strike bowlers to do the majority of the work

Captains always seem reluctant to bowl themselfs.
or they over bowl themselves ;)

but ponting isn't half bad, but not much more than 4 overs at a time for him i would think.

hayden is a good bowler though. He took 3 wickets in a MMC cup game for QLd a few seasons ago. he won the match for them with his bowling.
His ODI bowling record isnt flash though. 1 over 0/18 or something.

Well, since he's Australian, he's automatically a better bowler than any other player from any other nation (isn't that right?)

I think an old saying applies here.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Why does Ponting need to bowl more when the bowlers and players Australia use to bowl have made them easily the strongest team in world cricket? I just don't understand. :duh:

Agreed. For 'give Ponting a bowl' read 'Let Bichel open the batting for once'.

There's no justification for it (unless Sporting Index - quick plug for our sponsors - are offering good odds on Ponting getting shedloads of wickets against Bangladesh).

Can we give Shaun Pollock a bowl please Graham???!
He gives him about 5 overs then ignores him for the rest of the innings unless they get to last 10 overs...

If he's going to be a good captain he's gotta trust his best bowler...

Especially since his best bowler is senior to him and has captained the side before...

martyn is a far better bowl than ponting n e way. as is lehmann. there's no need what so ever to use him. also clarke if he's playing.

y? ponting and waugh both used martyn more regularly. the Warriors use him quite regularly. just look at the stats:

one day;

O R W Ave BBI 4w 5w SR Econ
Bowling 258.1 1300 41 31.70 3-3 0 0 37.7 5.03

four day:

O M R W Ave BBI 5 10 SR Bowling 522.5 138 1465 36 40.69 4-30 0 0 87.1
econ: 2.80

martyn also has an excellent slower ball.
