English Domestic Season 2023

Unbelievably jammy draw for Sussex, Yorkshire needing a handful with 7 wickets in hand and a day to go. And it rains all day.

Questions might be asked at Glamorgan over the groundstaff only covering part of the square during a heavy shower.

As a result the umpires decided that it was unfit for play and called the match off.

Glamorgan were heading for a certain defeat in the match.

Dothwaite at the crease with root, and neser to come + the #10 who made 50 in the first dig. A draw was still possible even if handelled properly IMO.

Middlesex win, Broad took 3 but conceded 80 off from 12 after an attacking declaration, bazball lives

256 runs @51 and 9 wickets @24 this season for Higgins. Has made Middlesex look competent and given them a win despite their non existent top order. Nice to see him figure out his game again after he broke from carrying gloucs too hard last season.

If stokes is injured and can't bowl I reckon hede be a good fit for the bazball style. Always been a quick scorer in red ball.

On paper looks like a miscalculation from Notts however it was probably worth a try given the premium on wins and the fragile state of the Middlesex batting this season until today.

Which I found bizarre because further down the South Coast it was a totally dry day. Not going to complain mind, got away with one after that shoddy second innings collapse.

Yorkshire not having much luck so far this season, some might suggest you get what you deserve....

That is genuinely hideous backing up technique tbf. Has he done basic things like staying side on and letting the bat trail behind him he'd have been fine

He was at least a little closer to getting back to his crease the 3rd time, absolutely nowhere near for the first 2. Bizarre that it's Tom Haines every time at the other end too, must have it in for his opening partner.

If this is the worse thing that happens to them this season they'll be very happy.

I actually think it makes it less bizarre that it's the same batsman at the striker's end. A batsman having a technique that leads to it makes it less of a fluke that it keeps happening to him.

One never knows with this saga however there does not seem to be the desire at the ECB to punish them to the point of oblivion, otherwise they would not have restored test match hosting rights. I imagine that they will get a points deduction for this year however it was surely better to make any deduction before the start of the season (especially as the new regime pleaded guilty).

Any news on foakes injury or if he will play tomorrow? Pepper did well in his absence
Confused. Do you mean Rossington ---> Pepper or Foakes ---> Smith? Assuming you mean Jamie Smith, not Pepper as Essex aren't playing this week. In which case, I can't find any news other than Josh Blake is keeping for Surrey's 2nd XI at the moment.
