@Chubb and @honestbharani will be happy to see Dan Lawrence back.

I'm surprised Woakes isn't there. They seem to have finally given up on the idea of him as an away Test bowler. That's definitely fair enough given his awful away record but I'd probably still back him ahead of Potts tbh. I wonder if he's still in the reckoning for the Ashes.

I can only see him playing if they decide Anderson needs a rest. Stokes/McCullum seem less keen on rotation

Woakes' record in NZ is crap, but so is everyone's apart from the two big guns.

England bowling in NZ for the current gen:

Will be pleased for Leach if he manages to play both tests this time on his third attempt. I fear them dropping him for Will Jacks.

Interesting for the fast bowler they've gone Stone, feel a bit for Jove, and actually Cove could probably consider his england career over.

Look Pews you may hate Potts but he did okay, would be really unlucky to be ditched after that.

Yeah I more meant for the broader squad than actually in the best eleven. He's not in this squad but may possibly be in a home one?

I thought Potts was quite likely to TRJ's career, that is one very good summer and then forgotten forever
That was through injury though, Potts is fit and without looking I'd say about 5 years younger than when TRJ debutted, mind you I would have picked TRJ over Potts at the start of last Summer, so what do I know.

To recover and be fit for ashes.

Makes sense given his injury record
hmmmm ok. i mean he is an outlier in that he is considerably more effective away from home for england and new zealand pitches on recent england tours have been fairly flat so his 'take the pitch out of the equation' style would probably be more beneficial here than at home v australia.

Who is out from the squad that went to Pak?

Jennings, Wood, Ahmed and J.Overton.

So, an Asian track specialist, an 18 year old, a perenially injured quick they're being careful with and Jamie Overton. So of those Overton is probably the one hard done to as Grecian says. But he's not exactly got a wealth of supporters clamouring for him to be in the side either.

Yeah... pretty fair selections overall then. Lawrence for Jennings, Stone for Wood, Potts and Broad for Ahmed and Joverton seems pretty logical.
