Emerging players Tournament 2011

Rohit has a very good Ranji record. Should definitely be in Test contention above Raina and Yuvraj (though his record is underestimated a lot of the time).
I'm surprised at those figures. Rohit seems to trump both Raina and Yuvraj in non-Test FC games, though he's played at least ten games less than them. One more domestic season, hopefully just as good, and Rohit is a Test player. It's a pity this IPL tag is slapped on him to demean him, when it can be an advantage.

Rohit is not that great against short pitched bowling though.. In fact, I think the keepers Parthiv and Karthik are much MUCH better than most of our specialist batsmen in taking on short pitched bowling..

The age and experience between the Indian team and the Aus one is huge, the Indian players are in the most, 22-25 and have lots of first class experience, some of them have ODi experience for India. The Aussies are like a under 21 side, with virtually no first class experience. Have the Aussies gone this way for a reason, to stick a really young side in against older more experienced players.

Townsville pitch is seamer friendly from all reports but yeah still pretty shocking figures for a guy who is supposed to play test cricket for Australia in a couple of weeks time.

Lastly just wanna ask how come in god's name is Beer at the age of 27 playing in an emerging players tournament.!?
Seamer friendly or not man those figure are bad even for international cricket.

I reckon that they wanted him to get some practice before the SL tour so that's why he was playing. But all this will do is hurt his confidence.

Maybe the Aussies are trying to trick the BCCI to get these players an international spot so they would thrash them in the upcoming tour. :)

But seriously though, I don't know why the Aussies are deciding to pass the opportunity to get their best first-class players some experience to play against international players especially when they are going through a rebuilding phrase.

'emerging players' and not 'A Tour' may have something to do with it
Don't agree with this, the whole point of an emerging players tournament is to provide the next gen of your country's players the experience of playing against talented international prospects from other nations but the AIS squad for some reason was mostly full of grade level cricketers.

The whole point of the Emerging players is what the board decide they want to get out of it.

IIRC historically it's been a younger person's tournament.

That's the problem with managing Indian players. The people who matter seem to sideline several batsmen and all-rounders because they 'cannot play the short ball', when they can instead work upon it and come up to speed. If we keep weeding out every batsman because of the short ball, there won't be anyone left. It's not just Indian players, but every other team that's had its problems with the short ball, but they seem to deal with it better than India.

When we have someone like Raina who can be dismissed every other innings for a small score by short deliveries from quick bowlers though, that individual cannot play in the Test team.

The problem with Raina is he'll start to do decently again once we go back to grounds where the ball is not bouncing that much and the pitch is slower.
He may even do well in this test at the Oval as the pitch seems slower though will depend how much carry the English bowlers get from it. Have never ever been fully convinced by him though and didn't want him in the test team in the first place.

Btw, Pujara is the best of the younger lot against the short ball from what i have seen so far.

Traditionally the Oval pitch is one of the fastest and bounciest in the Country, it usually doesn't swing like the Trent Bridge pitch or Old Trafford one but the bounce is the thing that differentiates itself from other English pitches.
