Drafts being moved out of CC and into games

I fail to see why them being a different subforum would make you stop coming.
More effort to click between subforums.

I used to stick to CC and occasionally wonder into OT and very rarely Site Discussion. Now I have to flick between the draft forum and CC if I want to draft and read over the Fast Bowling History thread that Starfighter has been so excellently writing in.

With an absolute maximum of four drafts going at once, what was the problem with having them in CC? They're all explicitly marked "Draft" in the title and even if voting threads and participation threads are going, took up less than half the front page in normal circumstances.

This is an absolutely pointless change that greatly inconveniences half the people who use CC and offers very little to the other half.

So let me get this straight. This decision was made by asking the people in a single draft if it was a good idea, and they said no, and by half a page of discussion on page 22 of an unrelated thread in the Site Discussion subforum?

Yeah that's a validish (even if weak) argument but it doesn't apply at all to what ankitj said if he was going to come specifically for drafts and nothing else; he'd have still been coming for one subforum. He'd just have to click on a different one, not more of them.

I think it's tidier and won't actually really affect anything at all, so I'm very marginally in favour and ultimately don't really care much. Arguments either way are going to be exaggerated and nothing will change IMO.

well, the ppl are saying that engagement with CC might be effected, which might effect site engagement, which is surely one of the objectives of an internet forum....

as you can see it was also discussed earlier in that same thread. Indeed you made your objections known at the time.

Another bonus of this is that we can now give drafters control over their first post, keeping things up to date and much cleaner for participants.

Engagement numbers can be tracked and this is something we will be monitoring but give this time to settle.

I did? I can't find a post of mine. At least I'm consistent if I did.

I still think it's a bad idea. As is me trying to write clever references to hitchhikers guide to the galaxy and messing up by making it half a red dwarf reference instead.

I have to admit this entire discussion is slightly bizzare for me. I hardly ever use the actual forum sub-divisions. New posts is the only important button.
This.

Personally, this change makes the forum categories more useful for me, as it's easy to see all the games ongoing.

Don't have an opinion on the draft thing either way but this is a very good call on the OT subforum, especially with the "what do you look like" and myriad other threads where we share personal information.

Don't see why the other two need to be members only though.

I have absolutely nothing against drafts or those who participate in them, but absolutely none of the arguments put forward in favour of keeping the drafts in CC actually hold any water

Especially the idea that people would stop visiting CW entirely if the drafts were transferred, that is just absurd on the very face of it, a statement deserving of nothing but ridicule

This is a dreadful take tstl

I mean you guys don't know that reorganizing websites (links, buttons, colour, font sizes) has impact on engagement? There are professionals who specialise in this. And usually they look at data to come at such conclusions. Those who say it must be so because I think so are not taken seriously.

Yeah but my point was that those people are wrong.
Ok. Time will tell.

As above, time will tell.

Whatever it takes!!!
I was never too fussed about this either way as I think members will find what interests them in the forum overall and then stick to it wherever it moves. I totally understand ankit and stephen's points but what is done is done. Both the owner and a global mod have said that engagement levels and activity in CC will now be tracked and if it does turn out that CC needs draft to retain the levels of engagement, then I am sure it will be moved back.

But it is worth trying out and seeing before we conclude either way IMO. So I am not against this move given its temporary and a final decision will be made based on actual data collected over the next few weeks.
