Bit of a long tail, but hopefully you don't need them with that top 7. 3 quicks 2 spinners or 4 quicks 1 spinner based on conditions, with Yuvi/Sachin/Saurav doing 6th bowler duties.

Dravid *****? The stonewaller?

Some of you so called Indian fans don't even know who your best ODI players are! Sad!

Lemme guess, Dravid's there to 'steady the ship' if the top order fails. Cowardice! Already planning for defeat! This ain't a Bangladeshi team mate.

Ajay Jadeja and Suresh Raina before Sehwag and Dravid.

Ajay Jadeja was a fixer, and I considered Raina but he's better at 6/7, where we already have MSD and Dev. Yuvi is a lock for 5, and Dravid's probably India's most successful number 4 outside of Azhar and Jadeja.

Yep, agree with this lineup completely. Only things I'd comment on are that Rohit clearly > Ganguly and that I can see Bhajji going out for Shami (or another spinner). Shami's WC record is the best from any Indian pacer which earns him a lot of credit despite playing <100 games.

Absolutely no need for Dravid in a strong batting lineup with 3 batsmen that each have a case for being the best ODI batsman of all time.

And seriously - Raina in an ATG XI? Have people lost their mind? You want to see him try and score runs vs the likes of Ambrose, Garner, Starc, Bond, Botham, Wasim, Waqar, Imran Khan, Hadlee, etc?

Dravid was a pretty solid odi batsman. Averaged near 40 at an acceptable scoring rate for his times.

That sums up Jadeja too really, except even more acceptable considering his career wound down as Dravid's began.

To go with his famous kamikaze knock in the '96 QF he also took a ton off Australia at a WC during their peak (96-07) No other Indian managed this feat. Underrated, big game player

We have not had too many batsmen who are great at the #6/7 spots where you need to be able to hit out from ball 1. I hope Hardik gets there over his career but as of now, Raina is our best bet and given the top 5 that he has to follow, it is very unlikely he has to bat anytime before the 40th over.

Plus he is a brilliant fielder and useful part time spin option all of which are valuable for the shorter formats.

Agreed. Azhar gets all the headlines, Ajay is often forgotten.
Jadeja's cricketing achievements were later overshadowed by a 5-year ban for match-fixing. The ban was later quashed by the Delhi High Court on 27 January 2003, making Jadeja eligible to play domestic and international cricket.

Shame on you for ignoring the second part of the story. Shame on you

lol, Azhar is an MP too. Does not mean they were clean. If you can call Prabhakar a fixer, I think Jadeja and Mongia were worse.

Even if we taking match fixing out of the equation, Jadeja does not belong there. His hundred against Aus in 1999 WC was scored when nothing much was on stakes and defeat was certain. 100 off some 140 balls when they needed run a ball. No effort made to chase the total. Prototype Dhoni 2019. Played a similar innings against Pakistan in his last match in 2000.

A record inflated by home track bullying as well. Averages 51(SR 73) at home but a poor 27 away(SR 66).
