CW's 50 Best ODI Cricketers of all time - The Countdown (2017 Version)

Red

The normal awards that everyone else has
Lloyd a bit of a forgotten or underrated ODI batsman/cricketer. Excellent SR for the era he played in, and also one of the true ATG fielders of all time.

Cricketer Of The Year
Great job as always NUFAN. You added a nice personal touch to the list which made following this thread really enjoyable.

Cricketer Of The Year
4th XI: 1. Chris Gayle 2. Gordon Greenidge 3. Kumar Sangakkara+ (c) 4. Javed Miandad 5. Aravinda de Sliva 6. Jonty Rhodes 7. Ian Harvey 8. Brett Lee 9. Dennis Lillee 10. Shane Bond 11. Andy Roberts 12th man Greg Chappell

3rd XI: 1. Saeed Anwar 2. Hashim Amla 3. Zaheer Abbas 4. Mark Waugh 5. Andrew Symonds 6. Shane Watson 7. Imran Khan (c) 8. Adam Gilchrist+ 9. Malcolm Marshall 10. Michael Holding 11. Nathan Bracken 12th man Jacques Kallis

2nd XI: 1. Sanath Jayasuriya 2. AB De Villiers+ 3.Dean Jones (c) 4. Brian Lara 5. Mike Hussey 6. Andrew Flintoff 7. Richard Hadlee 8. Shane Warne 9.Mitchell Starc 10. Waqar Younis 11. Allan Donald 12th man: Saqlain Mushtaq

1st XI: 1. Sachin Tendulkar 2. Ricky Ponting 3. Viv Richards 4. Virat Kohli 5. MS Dhoni+ (c) 6. Michael Bevan 7.Lance Klusenar 8. Wasim Akram 9. Joel Garner 10. Muthiah Muralitharan 11. Glenn Mcgrath Subs: Kapil Dev, Curtly Ambrose, Shaun Pollock

All squads updated. The only issue is demotion of Gilchrist to the 3rd squad due to lack of wicketkeepers in general and him being ranked as the 3rd best among the wicketkeepers by CW. I personally like the 3rd squad the most. Only Sachin will tilt my support towards the 1st team if the 3rd team plays the 1st team.

Why would Dhoni be captain? Ponting has had more success, Wasim was ranked higher. Also think each team should have 11 players in it or 12, not making a squad for the best team only.

Really? You didn't notice how Dean Jones was captain above Lara and Jayasuriya? Only one Aussie gum chewing #3 as captain rule, obviously. :p

FWIW, I think MSD is a better ODI captain than Ponting. so that's totally ok, AFAIC.

Done creating 4 teams with 44 guys balancing them as much as possible. Yes Nufan, we can dispute between Dhoni and Ponting on captaincy as both are equally great captains. Few other captains as well in that team like Viv, Akram and Kohli.

Rest: Chris Gayle, Aravinda de Silva, Ian Harvey, Andy Roberts, Malcolm Marshall, Michael Holding

The normal awards that everyone else has
Opening batsmen should be respected enough to have the top two placed in the 1st XI team, at least.
