Yeah, hard to be too sympathetic, but the length of the sentence very nearly provoked a slight twinge, especially when that charmer who repeatedly raped and inpregnated his daughters had his sentence reduced yesterday. Still over double what CCL will serve, but does seem deserving of more.

I wonder if the judge just wanted to make an example of a halfway famous person?

500 grammes or more and the guideline is 10 yrs +

5 kilos or more and it is 14 yrs+

so 13 yrs for 3.37 kg is there or thereabouts - could be argued its harsh as he's of good character but his honour is allowed to pass a deterrent element so that looks pretty much unappealable to me

Smuggling coke is basically the riskiest thing you can do with narcotics, they're ridiculously good at catching people at airports. Shipping is your best option, you can pay off the longshoremen.

I'd estimate anything from opium poppies is dangerous. Morphine itself is a very addictive and fatal drug.

Wow, tough sentence for Lewis. Ouch-worthy. Is the 10 years mandatory for the quantity in UK?

There is a minimum sentence of seven years for anyone who comes up for sentence for a third trafficking offence but that apart it's just guidelines - had Lewis pleaded guilty he'd have got around 8 and, had he given the police "useful" information, then depending on just how useful that proved then maybe considerably less than that

It is the mechanism how organized crime and terrorist groups make money. It isnt as if there was a 'Cocaine Tree' that Lewis picked the fruit off himself and tried to bring it home.

This is a major illegal industry full of bad men that have done terrible things.

There is blood on the hands of all drug-smugglers to some extent.
