Best ODI Batsmen Not To Score A Ton

Micheal Bevan if you count out his 6 centuries all under 108 in all but 232 games!

Interesting, he was quite easily the best ODI bat ever, and probably still holds that mantle.

The amount of times he single handedly batted australia to victory from the most dire of situations was mind blowing.

For the sake of this thread, could we have some logical choices? I don't think there has been a 100 scored at number 8 or lower so choices such as Kumble and Vaas are pointless.

To whoever said Michael Bevan, this is slightly off-topic, but he was touted best ODI batsmen prior to scoring a 100 - IIRC his HS was 79(*) for a long, long time.

So many people so far have mentioned players who were good Test players but poor ODI players. Slater, Adams, Vaughan, McCullum, etc. I don't really see how said players qualify as amongst the "best". Surely the question is "good at ODIs"?

In which case, Thorpe by a considerable distance.

Fair enough mate, I actually misread the topic as simply best batsman not to score an ODI ton.

I'd have Andrew Jones at least on par with Thorpe in this respect. 87 matches and 25 fifties highest score of 93 at an average of over 35 in an era when 30 was quote a good average.

On the whole McCullum thing if you're going to mention Parore (yes I know he scored a hundred) then McCullum deserves a mention. McCullum far greater batsman than Parore IMO.

Scored atleast 3 or 4 hundreds I recall.

Thorpe.
I dont know if either Roger Twose or Neil Fairbrother ever made hundreds I have an inkling they didnt, in which case they deserve a mention, if they did I'm a goose.
You're a goose.

Comfortably Thorpey, although I'm obviously not the first to make this observation. He never even made in to 90, his highest being 89. Pretty staggering he never made a ton, really, given he averaged a fifty every 4th ODI innings.

Mind you, if a certain SR Waugh had been a Pom he might never have made it either given he took 166 ODIs before registering his maiden. Thorpe played fewer than half that in total.

I suppose the obverse question is who is the worst ODI batsmen to score a ton? Nasser Hussain was the obvious one that sprang to mind, although doubtless I'm being unduly harsh.
