Australian test selection 2020/21

Tipping Josh Inglis to get a call up to the Test squad today.

'...with the introduction of COVID-substitute regulations meaning teams must carry a ready replacement for each specialist in their line-up.'

So Wade can't sub for Paine if he's already in the line-up. Will that also mean we'll need 2 pace bowling allrounders, Green and Henriques linked together?
Can one player be in more than one role? Wade could be the backup pace bowling allrounder as well as backup keeper.

Tim Paine (c), Sean Abbott, Joe Burns, Pat Cummins, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, James Pattinson, Will Pucovski, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Swepson, Matthew Wade, David Warner

Test squad has been announced, article also mentions "Former Test wicketkeeper Matthew Wade will fill the back-up 'keeper role should injury or illness befall skipper Paine." So green may start over wade in the first test.

Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Joe Burns, Jackson Bird, Alex Carey (wk), Harry Conway, Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Travis Head, Moises Henriques, Nic Maddinson, Mitchell Marsh (subject to fitness), Michael Neser, Tim Paine, James Pattinson, Will Pucovski, Mark Steketee, Will Sutherland, Mitchell Swepson

Australia A also announced, don't know why the **** carey is back up keeper in that squad over Inglis when inglis is a far better gloveman and has dominated the shield as a bat while carey has been sitting on an ipl bench.

real talk though getting in the squad is such an achievement for sabba given everything he's been through going back to the tragedy

mental strength and courage of the guy to come back after that and achieve what he's achieving - potentially playing for australia in the long form - you really couldn't be happier for the bloke

Dissecting the A squad, remove the 9 from the Test squad, the following 10 next in line

A.Agar, Bird, Carey (+), Conway, Harris, Henriques, Maddinson, M.Marsh, Steketee, Sutherland

Only surprise to me is no Inglis especially as Carey is supposed to be playing 2 T20s during the first A game

There's a real snap and crackle around Australian cricket with the potential debuts this Summer of Green and Pucovski

Nothing like youth and potential to excite the cricketing public

Basically Burns playing the A game is going to be a pointless exercise in any case.

Hate to be maddison right now, he's dominated the shield for a season and a half straight and can't even make an extended test squad.

This is a strange post. Why “lol”? And why “less than zero”?
Lol because I don't rate him

Less than zero is just hyperbole. But all of Cummins, Patto and Neser would have to break down before he joins Starc n Hazelwood

I wouldn't take that as an indication that Wade's spot is doubtful. If anything the opposite.
