I've been the biggest Burns fan around but if Pucovski is mentally fit he really should play the first test.

I'd sooner than have no spinners than two at any venue in Australia, especially against India. Starc is objectively a better bowler than Swepson and the conditions at all the grounds do not outweigh that to any degree when Lyon is already playing. If anything they all skew the opposite way.

I've stuck up for Swepson on here a lot before but he should not be in contention for home Tests while Lyon is fit.

Wish I can fit Abbott in somewhere but unfortunately for him, there are 3 better quicks and he isn't good enough to bat at six. But you just know he is going to do supper well if you pick him.

as said above, I think he's a good chance to be in the squad, afterall they picked him for aus a last season, but man i hope he isn't. he's got more to gain by being NSW's top dog than a drinks maker. similarly, I think taking Swepson away from some of the most friendly pitches he'll ever see in the shield would be annoying

Just read that there are expected to be 5 potential debutants announced in the squad tomorrow.

Pucovski, Green, Abbott, Neser and Swepson.

All 5 seem certain to be in the squad to me, however has Australia ever picked 5 newbies in a squad before (I realise it's a bigger Covid squad, but 17 is still tour size)

not sure how the bubble works but if you can't just bring anyone from outside in at a moment's notice then you want a back-up keeper too, which probably helps Wade keep his spot

Well that and the fact Wade was allowed to take the first 2 shield games off (had to be agreed by selectors as he was a lock?) and then averaged 69.66 in the remaining 2 games

Agree though, makes it easy when a batsman can step in as a test class WK when needed in a Covid bubble

Patto and Neser is sufficient fast bowling cover. You’re probably right about Harris though.

So Wade can't sub for Paine if he's already in the line-up. Will that also mean we'll need 2 pace bowling allrounders, Green and Henriques linked together?
