concerning reports coming in that Sean Abbott scored a ton in grade today. Burgey's boy Bertus can provide with us a report as he made 87

WA/Scorchers really are quality at the short formats and are deserving winners of the first ever Justin Langer Testimony trophy.

Take a bow Mitch Marsh - he has been terrific with the bat.

Can confirm. Rest of the side contributed SFA save Simmo and BT for the last wicket.

Does anyone want to take a punt at the likely Shield XI's - matches start on Thursday.

QLD - Burns Renshaw Khawaja Labuschagne Heazlett Peirson Wildermuth Cutting Neser Feldman Swepson

I would dearly hope for Feldman anyway, or at least Doggett for Cutting. They'll go for George or Gannon no doubt.

Victoria - Harris Finch Dean Handscomb White Maxwell Christian Siddle Boland Tremain Holland

This side assumes the continuing memeing of Handscomb as a legit wicket keeper will go into full blow.

WA - Bancroft Klinger S. Marsh Cartwright M. Marsh Stoinis Agar Coulter-Nile Behrendorff Mackin Moody

Hope Turner plays instead of Marcus "Bevan who?" Stoinis tbh. Also I don't want Moody there given Kelly, Green and Richardson look richer, but you just know. Imagine Richardson will play otherwise.

SA - Weatherald Dalton Ferguson Head Lehmann Cooper Carey Zampa Mennie Worrall Sayers

Cooper a bit low, but anything to not have Ross there. Valente or Winter might find spots I guess.

TAS - Dunk Silk Doolan McDermott Bailey Webster Wade Faulkner Perrin Fekete Meredith

The good thing about the Tasmanian roster is that no matter who you put in to the playing XI it still looks like ****en s***.

NSW - Hughes Warner Smith Patterson Maddinson Henriques Nevill Cummins Starc Bollinger Lyon

Maybe Cowan for Hughes, but he's in such good form.

Similar teams to mine.

QLD
I went George with Cutting out.

VIC
Dean to open. If Holland is unavailable Fawad in.

WA
I didn't pick Moody - Instead I went a specialist keeper (Inglis) and I wasn't aware Agar was fit, so went for Short instead. I think: Bancroft Marsh Stoinis Marsh Turner/Klinger Cartwright Agar/Short Inglis Coulter-Nile Behrendorff Mackin. Turner is the WACA vice captain so it is a big call to leave him out. Also a big call of mine to leave out Klinger - tough decision.

TAS
Dunk might not make the Tas team, I think Paine will find a spot once again in the XI somewhere. Wade probably bats 5 or 6.

NSW
Should play the team you've named. But it wouldn't be that surprising to see Abbott or say Conway come in for a bat like Hughes.

I'd forgotten Turner is VC now. They just have way too many deck chairs over at WA at the moment, especially with the Darsh brothers on the back burner.

Maybe Turner and Stoinis can both play? Didn't know Agar was injured but Short and Turner basically bowl filler anyway.

Yeah you're right, especially given Paine has just played internationals in the year 2017 no less. Stopped myself from putting him due to Wade and I just asked myself why even bother. There's only so much Paine you can take watching the man deemed better than you dropping catch after catch, bye after bye.

Yeh true on both counts.

Just on Tassie I am thinking Milenko has a good chance of playing.

Something like: Paine Doolan Silk Bailey McDermott Wade Webster Faulkner Milenko Fekete Perrin is a pretty weird looking lineup but hey it does bat down to 9.

Turner averaged 53 with the bat and 39 with the ball last season in the Shield - he bowled them to victory in the last game of the season too. His form in the one dayers has been dire but it'd be way harsh if he didn't at least start the Shield season.

Queensland's fast bowling attack is depressing. We're supposed to have a fast bowling factory up here but none of our options should be anywhere near the frame for international call up.

The fast bowling pecking order is probably:

Starc
Hazlewood
Cummins
Pattinson
Bird
Behrendorff
Sayers
Siddle
Mackin
Tremain
Mennie
Feldman

Everything below Sayers is up for grabs really. Behrendorff could skip Bird in the pecking order with a strong start to the shield season (or Bird having a slow start). Has Sayers jumped past Siddle? Possibly. Mackin rounding out the last of the options I'd consider a serious possibility of making the national team. I think Mennie has dropped down lower on the pecking order than he should be given his performance in his debut. Am I forgetting anyone?

Coulter-Nile would get picked before some of those guys IMO.

I reckon Boland and Fekete - both former Test squad members - would find their way back into the squad before Feldman got picked too, but if you're almost drawing names out of a hat down that far.

Would think Behrendorff is ahead of Bird personally. Get the feeling there's been building frustration with his work as third seamer.

And if we're talking pecking orders with the Ashes nearby, I wouldn't be surprised if Siddle was also ahead of Sayers. There's been that much reluctance to pick the Chadd. And with the Ashes coming I don't know if they'll be tempted by a fella who doesn't have the heart of Peter.

Just on NSW selection, Hughes got a double in firsts yesterday as well. Bloke is churning them out atm.

Forgot about Coulter-Nile. Knew that I'd probably forget someone.

It's hard to tell what kind of form Bird is in. He hasn't played in ages and has carried the drinks a lot.

I would put the quicks into the following tiers:

Tier One
Hazlewood
Starc

Tier Two
Cummins
Pattinson

Tier Three
Behrendorff
Bird
Coulter-Nile
Sayers
Siddle

Tier Four
Boland
Mennie
Tremain

Tier Five
Mackin
Paris
Richardson
Stanlake
Worrall

I know Stanlake is a BS selection, but with a CA contract I thought I would throw him into the final group which is basically a keep an eye on group.

Also I just wrote the names alphabetically within each group, not ranked within group.
