It's okay to rate guys like Barry and Van Der Bijl extremely high if you think they had ATG skill level but rating them over either elite ATG Test careers or ATG test careers is a fantasy.
Kyear does place Barry in the ten best bats ever if I recall.

He really doesn't.

Show me 10 players who think he's the greatest bowler ever, or the greatest they've seen and I will consider their reputations almost equal.
That's not the debate of who is better, I just told you. It's whether you consider Van Der Bijls rep enough to consider him a great?

Would you have Van Der Bijl in your SA ATG XI? Why not?

It is. You consider him the second best bowler. Hence you vote on bowler ranking despite you admitting that you already have a bowler like him in Hadlee and best attacks are varied.

You lecture about team composition but don't vote accordingly.
I understand what you're saying, and against any other bowler I would agree and vote with you.
Hadlee, even Ambrose of Steyn.

But yeah, they're two reasons I can't.

And believe it or not, neither has anything to do with Imran.

And I agree with you, the attack lacks variety and that special something from the 3rd spot.

You annoyance is justified in general.

I also agree that we should have awaited the tie breaker vote.

lowkey if Boycott was Indian or Pakistani we won't be having this discussion but he was English so ofcourse we have to fantasize a Barry career to jerk off to rather than just accepting reality of one having a great career and other being a what if

And my argument is if you can push him till there, pushing him above Boycott isn't mad either
It is, Boycott has a much better FC career and an 18 year Test career, You would've to say you don't actually care about runs or longevity or achievements, only peer reputation to push Barry higher.

wrap it up guys, Les Jackson is a better bowler than James Anderson because Lindwall and Trueman said he was amazing, ignore their actual careers though

I don't actually care about peer rep too much tbh

Johan, I agree with you but weren't you arguing over the test standard of country cricket at the time or something like that? That's what Kyear uses to base his rating of Barry.

Boycott was a selfish **** who played for his own average.

It was never team focused or strategic. He played for his average.

Never respected those players, never will.
