Root's still 34. I see him playing until he's 40 tbh.
Once your reflexes slow a little, it becomes really difficult. So I don't see him touring Aus again in 2029, so certainly retire (or made to retire) in 2028/29. Look how they handled Anderson.. once they decide they need xyz for Australia, they will do exactly that. There's a critical home ashes in 2027 which could also be the end if things don't go well. Then there's a tour of India in early 2028, which could also hasten things. So whatever happens right now is not a good indication of what's gonna happen in 2-3 years.

Yep my thoughts too.

But Root still seems to keep on improving.

Darwin Award

State 12th Man
Pant bringing up his fifty in style with a six.
Which makes that now his 7th consecutive test innings where he's hit at least 1 six.

Fast approaching 100 test sixes and he's only played 46 tests so far.

Stokes better add quite a few to his record quick smart or Pant or Jaiswal will pass him in no time.

England should try picking a bowler that isn't right arm mediocre in the next test. This session has been as one sided as test cricket between non minnows can get.

Ravi has a point - if they are bringing out a box of replacements, but then most of those replacements don't even fit the rings - so why are they in there? Shouldn't they check it beforehand?
Most of them should be inserted into the ring of the Dukes CEO.

Smith can't score 3 hundreds in one innings though 😉

Pant is level with Stewart and Prior on 4 centuries.
Ah yeah I was thinking of most runs in a series in England. Both Smith and Pant are close to breaking Stewart's record there and will almost certainly be 1 & 2 by the end of the series.

I honestly find it very strange that they changed that rule, was it really that problematic when stand in keepers are a pretty common thing?
If any other player gets injured badly enough to require a substitute, you could pull in a gun fielder in their place. Put them in key positions and get an advantage. So why not extend that to allowing teams to replace their wicketkeepers too?

Bashir is kaka at this stage. Don't get why they're in such a hurry to make him play Tests. A few more years just bowling more and getting stronger will do him and Eng good. He's only 21.

All this talk of Jofra's big return only to serve him with what looks like a road-ish pitch

Should've gone for a green top and taken your chances.
