How can you have the replacement balls being out of shape? What does the fourth umpire even do? Are Dukes just playing an elaborate prank on us all?

Ravi has a point - if they are bringing out a box of replacements, but then most of those replacements don't even fit the rings - so why are they in there? Shouldn't they check it beforehand?
It could well be that Dukes themselves are providing their replacements and, well, we've seen the attitude of their CEO to any semblance of quality control.

I don't think he will unless he gets a few this winter.

Our last tour there he was third run scorer behind Head and Marnus. But only getting 64 runs per test. When his overall record is 84 per test.

Depending on when he plays to which if I was a betting man 2028 summer might be his end at 37. Maybe the end of 2027 if the next two Ashes and next World Cup goes well.

Then he needs to probs improve on that 84 runs a test to overtake Sachin.
Root's still 34. I see him playing until he's 40 tbh. Still plenty of time to surpass Sachin.

This would make sense, and make it even more ridiculous. Surely it should be the umpires or someone from ICC or the local cricket assoiation before the game that should be responsible?

Umpires need to take responsibility and push the sides on to get through their overs. Right now umpires themselves laze around and allow constant breaks. They are more than happy to officiate for less overs.
Exactly this! These umpires certainly are in no rush. They get paid the same for less work. Why not take it easy?

I was never into being all crazy about over rates, but this is changing my mind. There should be strict timers for breaks as well, after x amount of time, the batsman has to go off and can come back later. With fielder, the amount should be very short before a sub comes on and they can get treatment later.

I think the problem is that we leave it to umpires - there needs to be strict timings - like there is a timer on how long a batsman has to come out when there is a wicket. It's not left up to umpires. It is really getting out of control. Play the ****ing game.

When Pant scores another century here. He will have the most for a keeper in England as designated wicket keeper.

Although from a stats perspective should it count as being the designated keeper 🤔

KL not having a high 40s averaging career will be one of the great WTFs of modern Test cricket. That he averaged low 30s before this series an even bigger mystery. Aside from his own failings, part of it has had to do with how he's been shunted around the batting order, but when allowed to breathe, he's as complete a batsman as you can hope to get.
He has a pretty terrible record at home. In overseas conditions, you expect Indian batsmen to have low averages but in home conditions, you expect players to maximise in familiar conditions. Rahane is another player who does well overseas but not at home.

Also didn't help Kohli era featured a lot of dustbowl pitches which made both India and the opposition teams susceptible to spin friendly conditions.
