2nd Test (Edgbaston) - July 2nd

Batting in the top order is tough anyway, but especially in England when the Duke’s ball will do things early (perhaps not quite as prominent now, but still tougher than walking out to bat in the middle order)
You say this but so far that's not really been the case in the last few years. There's been less swing and also less seam recently.

Bumrah is Indias version of Shane bond. He's brilliant but made of glass.
I shared this stat in the other thread - only 4 fast bowlers have bowled more overs in Test cricket than Bumrah in the last 5 years. Cummins, Starc, Anderson and Southee. And Bumrah has kept up a heavy white ball load on top of that too. Absolutely no comparison to Bond.

Jadeja is the senior bowler and and senior lower-middle bat. There being problems in these areas doesn't automatically mean you drop him, it means improving there is a case of him getting his act together, which he probably will.

Same as Woakes for England. He had a crap game, but is required to come good for the attack to make sense.

If I were India I would consider Sundar or Kuldeep for Thakur, but hold it there so long as Bumrah is fit.
Can’t agree with this logic. Stokes gifted him a wicket otherwise his last 60+ overs in England have been wicketless. He was really bad with the ball the last time he toured. He hasn’t looked very good with the ball in general of late.

Batting wise he didn’t have a fair go this time due to the crap lower order, but I do think Reddy offers more - we have somehow decided to drop our second highest run scorer from the Border Gavaskar series. Jadeja meanwhile hasn’t been having a good time with the bat.

Reddy doesn't offer more. He's about as good with the bat at best, given how low he batted in the BGT and the generally easier times he had to score runs, and he's worse than Shardul with the ball, unlike Jadeja. They might as well shoot themselves in the feet if Reddy comes in for Jadeja.

What, England's leading wicket taker in the India series

Woakes 43 overs - 1 wicket at 148.00
Carse 41 overs - 4 wickets at 44.00
Tongue 38 overs - 7 wickets at 22.57
Stokes 35 overs - 5 wickets at 22.60
Tongue took out the tail, which is something. Woakes will probably play because of his batting and his home record. If you leave Woakes out, I don't think Carse is an eight so you could always pick Dawson (no chance).

Cant Pandya play tests? They shouldve put Pandya as the all rounder. He can bat real well also.

Agree hes been over bowled due to lack of wicket taking options in Indian cricket. Shami, also having worse injuries has not helped as he wouldve been a good foil for Bumrah. Probably Bond is not fully accurate but in terms of injuries both had the same injuries- stress fractures.

I believe they didn't feel he could be fit enough to play Tests again. India's been unlucky with Pandya's fitness in Tests from 2018 onwards, when he would've solved a lot of the issues with the XI.

Yes, as proven by waiting from his comeback until now to even put him in a red ball squad

Nonsense statement
He played his first red ball game in 4 years and pumped out less than 20 overs ..now he's in the squad.

Doesn't make a lot of sense. He probably won't play the next test, and I know England are desperate to have him for The Ashes, but surely it would be a better idea to have him rolling out some more overs in county cricket.

Not sure why Eng even want to rush Archer back into the team. What they have currently is enough to handle this Indian team. At least enough for their batsmen to outscore whatever India make. Save Archer for the Ashes which anyway seem more important to the English public at large.

Think he'll only play 2 tests. Probably 3rd and 4th.
Then Mark Wood may play the 5th. All set for the Ashes.

Maybe we shouldnt pick quicks until theyr over 35. All the young ones seem to get injured trying to bowl anything.
Oh for a stalwart like Ken Higgs, who retired twice and took 5-22 at the age of 49.

Archer is 30 and has done absolutely nothing to justify this superstar treatment wherein he gets express entry into the test squad after playing a token FC game. He took 1-31 in that game too. In the white ball cricket he does play, he has completely lost the ability to move the ball and regularly returns Haris Rauf figures. I doubt he'd be able to maintain his pace either so congratulations to England on replacing Josh Tongue with basically the same bowler.
