I have a theory that going to a short-pitched plan too early deadens the duke ball. Usually you still get at least a bit of movement for 40-50 overs or so but as soon as they start banging it in that always seems to be the end of it. Woakes got good movement first up early on day one but when Tongue bowled a few overs of bouncers it was gone.

I think this new Dukes basically has nothing after 40 overs anyways but you are right, this plan seems to hasten the softening thing.

Is it a Gambhir strategy to just draw this game without Bumrah, and may be have fully fit Bumrah unleash on a better bowling friendly tracks in upcoming tests
