You can not control the weather. Lets say they played more time yesterday and today, but end up not losing any time tomorrow. What then? Do they end tomorrow early anyways? Or do you have a Test where the fear of rain lead to extra overs being played across the 5 days? How do you think the players, spectators, broadcasters, staff paid to work at the event will feel about either outcome?
Yeah also visas

Jeez, india really needs to get something out of their lower order. I suspect that’s a reason Thakur was picked but he’s offered nothing. You don’t expect them to add hundreds, but they’re virtually six out all out atm.
Agreed. For some time, it looked like they were getting somewhere with Ashwin, Ishant, etc. But the current lower order is useless. With teams like England, most apart from Bashir are capable of keeping the top order batsmen company for a rearguard partnership if need be. That will only get stronger when some players like Wood, Atkinson, Potts, or Archer come into play. Australia, South Africa, NZ, etc. also have similar strengths.

Can't say the same about Siraj and Prasidh, or even Bumrah to be honest (though to be fair, it's probably unfair criticism of him given how he's literally carrying the bowling attack at the moment).

India might still get away with their sloppy performances in each of the 3 departments just due to the large total and cooler conditions. But make no mistake, this team as we see it so far is nowhere capable of even beating this England side in a 5 match test series without serious improvements, despite the fact that England's flaws are well known as well outside of their batting.

the match will really decide a lot, either India is going to win and it's going to be a 3-1 or 3-2 beating for India, IE England would have to work for their win.

If they lose, it would be a long, long summer for them, if you lose after 4 of your notoriously inconsistent top 5 firing, I don't know how you come back from that.

India is really hanging to their Test status by the heel of Jasprit Bumrah, I've never seen a Test team so dependent on one man.

Bumrah has now bowled 28 overs in the match, if England can see him off it’s hard to see where the other threats are. I also expect it to finish before there’s any chance of a 2nd new ball. Fascinatingly set up, let’s hope the weather plays ball…
Oh no, not 28 overs! Poor fragile Bumrah.

This match is perfectly set up for a Bumrah burst where he'll probably take a 7 for and finally get that elusive 10 for to win the first test for India. Then again, it might just rain all day...

England didn't create that many chances yesterday except in the first session. Karun Nair, Pant and the lower order chucked their wickets away. So I doubt India will be able to create enough chances on still a flat deck.

England 60%
India 35%
Draw 5%

Sunset in Leeds is after 9:30 PM so play can be extended till late in the day. So rain is not going to have any bearing on the match, which pretty much rules out a draw.

Rishabh Pant has received 1 demerit point, assuming for the ball change incident where he threw away the ball when the umpire refused to change it.

The point is, he's bowled 28 overs and there's 10 wickets still to take. We know he's a bit injury prone and can't really be overbowled. And if the first innings is anything to go by, the only way the batsmen get out to the other bowlers is through stupid shots (which admittedly we cannot rule out with this lot).

Yeah he a fragile mess, which was basically my point in general.

Isn't he a bit of a fragile mess because over the last year or so, he's practically been the only show in town for India with the ball?
