Best team since Waugh/ Ponting’s Australia?

Something weird is going on. I didn’t write this comment.

Best team since Waugh/ Ponting’s Australia?

SA weren't some infallible batting Gods at home. As has been pointed out, they were rolled over at home by the might of Sreesanth, Dartbhajan, Andrew McDonald/Siddle, Onions, Herath etc to lose multiple Tests in their golden era.

    2nd greatest living cricketer

That's a fabulous record, great WPM and SR.

    2nd greatest living cricketer

He bowled arguably his best ever spell on a Brisbane road in 2006 Ashes. I'm quite fond of posting this YouTube video, masterclass in hitting one crack that was misbehaving on an otherwise flat wicket.

    Worst Umpiring decision

He's so stupid on this "no sympathy with batsmen who don't play a shot". Erm, the reason he left it was it wasn't hitting the stumps. He'd probably do cartwheels to defend Kohli every time he gets out snicking one because he can't watch five balls go past him outside the off stump.

How Many of Inzamam-ul-Haq's Runs in International Cricket Were Scored By Runners?

Makes sense that cricket is probably the only sport where you can get lackeys in to run for you.

    Dhoni v Gilchrist

Gilchrist didn’t star in a homemade porn movie either. Sanath >>> Gilly

    Dhoni v Gilchrist

As opposition team you knew you were ****ed when you saw him striding in at 280/5 or whatever twirling his bat.

    Dhoni v Gilchrist

Gilchrist averaged 30 in his last 28 Tests (reasonable but a bit below par for a keeper batsman). In his first 68 Tests he averaged 55.65 with 15 hundreds and 20 fifties. Probably batted up the order for some matches but that's insane output.

    Dhoni v Gilchrist

There is a big gap between Gilchrist and Dhoni as Test batsmen which the other formats, captaincy etc don't compensate. Dhoni wasn't a great Test captain anyway. Gilchrist was also a better Test keeper. Gilchrist was prone to early dismissals when facing spin in Asia, very rocks and diamonds...

England players and selection discussion thread

I think Leach is a very good spinner and Mo's retirement will solve a selection headache for England. Expecting Leach to be given a run and make the spot his own.

Who is the second best opener of the last half century?

Yes, but he has some bad holes in his record vs SA/WI (which is also mirrored by his poor record in Australia, SA, NZ in ODIs) so maybe he had the same technical deficiencies which Sehwag did.

Who is the second best opener of the last half century?

Sehwag yes - Hayden got dropped sometime in the mid 90s after facing Ambrose et al and couldn't get back into that batting lineup until around 2000. He was smashing it in Sheffield Shield by all accounts and had to displace superior competition.

Who is the second best opener of the last half century?

Gary Kirsten and Anwar are probably just below Sehwag, Hayden and Smith.

The "Can't believe they lost from there" Thread

Champions Trophy final in 2013 was an ATG choke. Especially those junk balls by Ishant getting wickets after the first couple of deliveries disappeared

The "Can't believe they lost from there" Thread

Pakistan did a good choke vs NZ in UAE a few years back. Should have won at a canter.

Best Day 5 of a Test Match

Yes Yes, Australia hadn't got bowled out yet and had a lead of 100 odd IIRC.

Best Day 5 of a Test Match

Australia bowling out Pakistan in two sessions on a flat pitch in a rain affected game in around 2016 was also fun.

Best Day 5 of a Test Match

England with Prior sneaking an unexpected draw in 2013 against NZ A couple of Tests between England and NZ were decided late in the final session a couple of years back NZ producing steamy roads that never disintegrate results in some terribly dull draws but some interesting finishes as well.
