Are you saying tat pull- and cutshots are more important for an opener than for a #3? I'd say keeping your bat straight is more important to an opener...... You got me puzzled here!

TBH, I don't think Cook should be dropped. But why can't Trott open? If he is good enough to bat at 3, he ocasionally has the same job as an opener.... I'm not saying a #3 is a decent opener, but you can't say it's ridiculous either.

That he is. One wonders why he was out of the picture for England between 2000 and 2007/8? He's not just a good spinner, but he can actually win matches for England.

I think so. However, Farhat and Ali have made some decent partnerships when playing Aus. I'm not so surprised by it! But once these two are gone, it's over.

Pheww, Amin lucky twice in two balls.

I find that, as a batsman, it is rather hard to judge if a ball would have gone on to hit the stumps....., but to judge whether the impact was outside off....., even I can do that. Apart from that, as the last recognised batsman, you can simply go for the referral and hope for the best...

From cricinfo  : Another wicket or two and we're into the decent batsmen....

Pakistan has a good attack, but poor batting line-up. Paks batted crap against Aus too. Simply because their batting line up is so very very weak. Aus were simply better in 3 of the 4 innings. It was just that the one innings, where Pak bowlers were on fire and arguably Aus batsmen had a day...

Hmmm, Broad had figures of 5-4-2-1. I wouldn't have taken him off! Edit: Great captaincy by Strauss  .

Did India miss any chances? Or get a close to a wicket otherwise?

The 8th and 9th wicket partnership are the highest in the innings (38 & 37*). I guess that mean that, with proper test batting, 200 should be an easy target.

Thanks for answering the question I was going to ask. Has this pitch indeed become a bowler's paradise and will it evenbecome more helpful? And if so, is 150 really a par target? In the first innings, these two (Mendis & Samaraweera) put up 35 runs. Of those, Mendis scored only 3 runs in 40...
