The 90s and 00s banlisted draft thread

Yeah, amazing that Gilly could be the one to miss out. I too thought seriously about taking him and making Flower a specialist batsman in my team.

Bradman to Sehwag - Redefining Great Batsmanship Through Defying Tradition

Great article so far. Enjoyable reading as you're laying out your case. If I'm picking up where you're going correctly, the emergence of Hayden and Gilchrist at near the same juncture as Sehwag is not to be viewed as coincidence.

Was tossing up between Hayden and Sangakkara, so Sangakkara it is. Strauss Vaughan* Sangakkara Younis Ganguly Flower+ Flintoff Streak Wasim Fleming MacGill. Will post stats etc this evening when I'm on a proper computer. Thoughts on the team? I'm pretty happy with it. The middle order is...

Seems unlikely now that Metallics will make his choice before I go to sleep in five minutes...

    Gundappa Viswanath

Hardly unique I suppose. Especially for a player freshly arrived from Indian pitches to the Gabba. Thommo can't have been much fun to face!

    Gundappa Viswanath

Actually started the thread hoping to coax a contribution from SJS. Far be it from me to suggest he write an article like the Border one for the main page, but... Can't guarantee I'd never seen his name, but it never registered til the other day.

    Gundappa Viswanath

Inspired partly by Burgey's great article on Border the other day, I'd love to hear the recollections of those here who got to see Gundappa Viswanath in action. I admit I'd never heard of him until a week or two ago when I stumbled on to his profile on Cricinfo. Sounds like a great batsman and...

    The CW50 - No.10

Had Hadlee quite high on my list - circa 10 but cbf checking exactly where. Throughly deserved his place. I think that it definitely helped guys like Marshall, as opposed to Hadlee, to have great bowling teammates. On the odd occasion Marshall had a bad day or encountered someone who withstood a...

The 90s and 00s banlisted draft thread

Brumby has easily the best batting of any of the sides IMO. How we allowed someone to get Ponting AND Tendulkar, in addition to Jayawardena and Hussey confuses me.

The 90s and 00s banlisted draft thread

Had no hopes initially that Ponting would make it to me, but was just starting to think he might. Again, given you have a decent pace quartet, Sachin isn't the worst part time spinner - no substitue for a real slow bowler but I don't think going with one of the quicks this round would have been...

    Excellent.

    Which is harder?

    I spoke casually.

Not too bad. Waugh can bowl his offies if required - he's a comparable option to Viv in the Windies pace quartet teams. With McGrath leading them, that's a pretty handy pace attack, and Healy is a pretty good batsman to be coming in at 8!

Steven Smith - Will he go anywhere?

So he's he new Cam White, but without the handicap of being Victorian?

    The CW50 - No.20-11

Would kinda kill some of the interest in the top 10 - it's pretty obvious but there could still be a shock.

    The CW50 - No.20-11

Would say it was Sobers. Some hsve already pretty much made clear they wouldn't put in players from the 19th century - I'm certain Grace has been left out of some lists.

    Which is harder?

What you see at test level in batsmen is also more reflective of what kind of bowling prospers in their country, rather than what attributes batsmen from that country possess. For instance there could in theory be many batsmen in India in junior ranks who prefer pace to spin, however batsmen who...

Btw, I was saying that the selectors saying that was crap, not you asking the question.

    *Official* West Indies In Australia

Saying that is crap IMO, given that they've also said Watson must be prepared to be bat anywhere in the top 6.

Wow, didn't expect him to be the first guy taken in round 11.
