The 90s and 00s banlisted draft thread

Ambrose, Akram, Warne, Donald, Tendulkar, Lara, and Waugh have all gone. Gooch, Boon, De Silva and Healy remain.

Getting the feeling I was the only one to vote for Frank Worrell :(

Can A be 'greater' than B and B 'greater' than C but C 'greater' than A?

As SS said, not if you're comparing apples with apples, unless you've got an inconsistency in your rating process. If you're thinking "I think Tendulkar is better than Lara, and Lara is better than Waugh, but Waugh is better than Tendulkar" (for example's sake, ferchristsakes no need to leap to...

    Strange records

Remember seeing Ian Healy bowling in AB's Tribute Match, dressed up as Merv Hughes (fake moustache, pillow shoved under his shirt). Obviously not an international match, but just a funny memory. He bowled two or three balls doing a complete impersonation of Merv, but was then too buggered to do...

    Anyone else having withdrawal?

    *Official* West Indies In Australia

Don't recall him ever being a consistently 140kph bowler. He might have got the odd effort ball up to that mark or a k or two over, on occasion over the years, but he was more mid 130s I'd have said.

The 90s and 00s banlisted draft thread

EDIT AGAIN: Yeah, you're right. Just went and checked the "Keeper for the team of the 00s" thread, and Bagapath had put those 'minnows excluded' stats (39 as a keeper and 67 as non-keeper). Guess I mis-read/mis-remembered them. Apologies bunny - thanks Jack.

    Goodbye Herschie

    The CW50 - No.30-21

Had Waugh (19), Ponting (20), O'Reilly (21), and Gavaskar (22). Not sure about rating Steve and Ricky above Tiger in retrospect, but my whole list would likely be reshuffled if I did it today, and then again if I did it the day after.

The 90s and 00s banlisted draft thread

I think bunny has a point in that having a brilliant keeper as compared to a competent one doesn't benefit you as much as having a brilliant batsman/bowler instead of a competant one. That said I'd say that the flipside is that having a substandard keeper instead of a competent one hurts you...

The 90s and 00s banlisted draft thread

Even though Sangers only averaged mid thirties with the bat when keeping cf. Healy's high 20s? Anyway, Sangakkara is not the worst example of this - he at least kept and kept pretty well in many tests. EDIT: Ignore this point re: Sangers, I recalled the figures wrong. He averages 39 against...

    *Official* West Indies In Australia

Yeah, barring a Dizzy style cameo vs Bangers over there or in Darwin, i'd say that's it.

The 90s and 00s banlisted draft thread

Yeah, but what proportion of catches go to the keeper, compared to second slip? Let alone the runs conceded as byes? Selecting a keeper solely for their batting is as foolish as selecting a bowler solely for their batting ability.

Well, that would be one way to show our appreciation.

The 90s and 00s banlisted draft thread

It's funny, was very focused on getting a top drawer bowler, so didn't really pause to think I was passing up the chance to have Sachin or Lara in my team. Was the right call for me IMO, but still.

The 90s and 00s banlisted draft thread

Yeah, ****s me to. Someone took Kanhai as a keeper as well in a recent one. Walcott always gets abused that way.
  17. Matt79

The 90s and 00s banlisted draft thread

Healy is a true Great IMO. And De Silva, Boon, or Gooch would massively strengthen the batting of any of the teams in the draft.

    Goodbye Herschie

No doubt Graeme Smith was mortified. As you say brilliant fielder as well, although I've noticed that sometimes he tries to throw the ball up before he completes the catch. Hope he enjoys retirement, maybe can travel and see the world - besides India that is. Aussie-Saffie baiting...

The 90s and 00s banlisted draft thread

There really are no bad outcomes in this or the next round, aside from possibly a team balance perspective.

    The CW50 - No.40-31

Was Waugh, and Kapil Dev was the other. I thought Dev had been one of four players I just couldn't cram in in the end. Think he was a late change that I'm glad I made. Kapil was a great all rounder and got extra ratings from me for being the first truly great fast bowler in his country, but...
