    The CW50 - No.20-11

He should definitely make a top 50, let alone top 100.

And hence perhaps deserved to get some more votes for that Bradmanesque batting. Sangakkara is a funny one - I usually tend to need players to be finished before I am comfortable rating them. It's only inthe last six months that I've had Ponting and Tendulkar in my best 25 and XI respectively...

Will be interesting to see where he places in the end. Shouldn't have been too far away. Flower missed out as well, and he had a better case for inclusion IMO (which is why I voted for him).

Most people voting are too young to have seen him in his pomp.

    Cricket Books

Has anyone got a copy of Peter May's The Rebel Tours - would be a fascinating read. I've come across virtually nothing about them.

So plenty of love between Beefy and Hadlee?

He talks a lot of sense about cricket. Whereas Rodney Hogg is one of those ex-players who makes a career as a commentator by writing off guys.

    Which is harder?

There's no answer other than "depends what you're good at".

Select last THREE players for the dream team of 00s

KP says hi. Although in all seriousness, most test batsmen would rather get hit and bruised than lose their wicket, and with helmets being universal in this era, injuries worse than a nasty bruise are pretty much out of the equation.

Re: Gilly - in that case, would you say that either Hadlee or Imran were good enough bowlers to deserve a place ahead of the likes of Ambrose or Murali then?

    The CW50 - No.20-11

On the face of it. But who of those above him would not be equally unlucky to be so low? I put Ambrose ahead of McGrath personally but by the finest of margins, I don't know whether Lillee is a better bowler than Curtly, but to my mind he's a 'greater' one. Gilly was better in his field...

Select last THREE players for the dream team of 00s

And if Kallis is called upon to bowl, sure he's not a 'great' bowler but he's got 200 wickets at a respectable average - it won't be a cakewalk. Indeed, he'd possibly get some cheap wickets from loose shots as batsmen who have been pinned down by main four bowlers try to take advantage of the...

Bit shocked Murali isn't top ten.

Voted for most of these. Left Hammond out somehow. Used to rate him massively high, have probably have revised him down very slightly.

The Ali analogy is a great one. Will steal it and trott it out in future arguments of this sort.

    Modern-day batsmen and flat pitches

How many tests dis those awesome bowlers over that period win? I'm not saying they were uniformly diabolical, but they were clearly a grade below the great attacks of the period.

Select last THREE players for the dream team of 00s

Six bowlers is too many - esp. with two spinners like Warne and Muralitharan. I'm not too fussed if Kallis doesn't bowl too much - even if we had Flintoff, in most circumstances I'd prefer to have Murali and or Warne bowling than him. Having to face either of those spinners with one of the other...

Select last THREE players for the dream team of 00s

Pretty simple for me - Dravid, Kallis as the allrounder and Murali.
