Salman Butt released early from prison

Butt stated the follwing: Obviously, when someone tries to do some spot-fixing, he does need both the captain and the bowler to make things work. So why is it that mr Butt keeps claiming he's innocent?

What is an acceptable, or even good, strike rate for batsmen in ODIs?

If a decent opener, with a properly increased chance to really keep his wicket intact for a while, strikes at 70, all is fine. Obviously, he should accelerate if he survives until the later part of the innings. So his rate should indeed average towards 80 then. But to state that a top three...

**Official** Pakistan in Sri Lanka 2012

Fair to say it probably will cost them the match. Fifty+ runs (and counting) for the 8th wicket. A 100 run first innings lead is now changing its likelyhood from possible to probable. And as I type, Perera hits a six over cow corner. That's not cricket!

    Your Cricket Season

I can't really imagine many people will be interested in the Dutch saturday league (which is the social cricket eague, as opposed to the sunday league, which has nasty features like promotion and relegation). I guess our competition planning is more about the quality of te tea and the bbq...

**Official** West Indies in England 2012

Too bad Pollard is out, but he and Dwayne Bravo have pulled WI out of a big mess. There's a more than decent opportunity to get things to a fair total. I've wondered this too, for quite a while, but the verdict is that Prior is a stroke player and not a fine rotator of the strike. Not sure I...

Kevin Pietersen Retires From ODIs and T20Is

I find it a bit annoying that this thread is so much about KP and not about the ECB. Whatever we think of the man, he's not quitting T20 voluntarily....

Kevin Pietersen Retires From ODIs and T20Is

The ECB should then conclude what most people with common sense already know: T20 will compete with ODI and probably win, but it will never beat Test Cricket. If what you described will happen, we will see tours of 3 Tests, 7 T20's and a single ODI, rather than 7 ODI's and a single T20.

Kevin Pietersen Retires From ODIs and T20Is

Though I agree, I am very much convinced the majority of the responsibility to find a way out is on the ECB's shoulders. Players can make clumsy, ill-advised, plain wrong, stupid or dreadful decisions as many times as the can. But it will always be board's job to find a way out. That's why not...

Good work, but we all know this means trouble for England, as these two will put up 200 runs now for the 6th wicket. Oh no, it'd Edwards..... Not sure I get that.

Three seamers over 7 tests indeed sounds unlikely. However, does Finn really need some sort of run-up match against WI, before we assume he's ready to bowl at Kallis, Amla & De Villiers? I'd put him in happily just when needed. Anyway, what FJ said: what a luxuary for England to discuss...

**Official** West Indies in England 2012

England's success over the last few years has, imho, a lot to do with not giving up too soon on players who appear to be out of form for a few matches. Not regarding my own opinion, not selecting Bresnan would massively surprise me. Think of Cook, Bell & Morgan. They all got a few extra chances...

Though I agree wholeheartedly, I won't be that surprised if such a comparison will become a fair thing in time. Broad is probably the most improved cricketer ever. For the last 2,5 years he has averaged 24 with the ball. And I can see his batting grow further as well.
