Should we really be surprised that an attack with Johnson, Hastings, Starc, Lyon and (all-rounder) Watson are not able to bring back Aus to the #1 position of test ranking?

Are they? Not saying the Saffers are ahead, but I think honours are pretty even!

    I love test cricket!

As always, hard to tell until we've seen Steyn & co bowl at the Aussies. Anyway, I still can see SA add a few for the last couple of wickets. The Aussie audience have seen Steyn bat for a long time before :) .

Well, anything should be shown on TV, so I agree there. Also, Tendulkar was once given LBW (and rightly so), after taking it on the shoulder!

I did some math. Average first innings score at the WACA since SA last toured in Aus is slightly above 300. Obviously Aus are on top here, but SA needn't too many runs more to set up this series for a great finish.

No, it was way too high!

Half way the upper leg....., and some commentator starts about a review...... Maybe handy for medical use, or what? He'll make up for that, don't worry.

    Too early to call.

One could argue RS is for overturning howlers, which this wasn't in any way. Given Aus had 6 wickets and 2 reviews left, I agree though.

    Why eleven?

Not sure where I picked it up, but I'm pretty sure the number 11 is simply derived of the fact that you need 10 wickets to end an innings. I might have been John Mayor's (yup, the former British PM) book on the history of cricket. A book in which he describes his quest and concludes that the...

Maybe he made the same mistake I did: Until I checked earlier today why Ponting would leave halfway the series, I was sure there would be 4 tests.....

    **Official** Ponting Tribute Thread

I've seen three innings by Ponting: -Two at the Kensington Oval in 2008, LBW by Jerome Taylor for 18, and caught by the late Runako Morton at midwicket for 39. -A three-ball golden duck in 2009 at The Oval, LBW by Jerome Taylor, during the world cup T20. It is a sad thing I remember Ponting...

That would be something. SA have the best batting line-up imho.

All good things ....... I'm a bit shocked to see these facts. From start to 2001 he averages 60. From 2007 till now he averages 40. Any idiot could see he was not the batsman he was before, over the last two years, but this is a bigger difference than I would have guessed. Anyway, 40...

Well done! Good cricket! It is a shame this series has only two tests. Also, it puts some value on NZ. After all, Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka is a tough test.

In the discussion about Finn, Bresnan, Broad & Onions, Tremlett isn't mentioned. Injured?

Agreed, though Pujara has been impressive as well. For the rest: Tendulkar, Kohli & Yuvraj have the same problems handling Swann & Monty, as Trott, Bell, Bairstow & Patel have handling Ohja & Ashwin....

If the other 4 make a few 30s, 40s and 50s, we will never remember their innings, but it will be enough to let the big guns score a few more. I think England's top order (other than Cook & KP) will do so. I agree with you they are unlikely to save a test. Question: If we compare England's...
