Will we ever see a pure wicket-keeper selected to play tests for Australia again?

A very good reason for Gilchrist to bat at 7, was that Australia had a gazillion batsmen suited for 1-6 spots anyway. I haven't dig into the data, but it would surprise me if Gilchrist's batting averages would be significantly higher than any #5 or #6 he has played with regularly. Kumar, Flower...

Will we ever see a pure wicket-keeper selected to play tests for Australia again?

Just a random thought: Is it likely or unlikely to save (an average of) 25 runs (the assumed batting average difference between a modern Test keeper and a bowler batting at 10) each innings for a better wicket keeper? Against good batsmen (averaging 50), it means 1 stumping or catch that the...

They should make a 9 team test world cup

I've always failed to see the point of a Test Championship. What purpose does it serve? Proper Test cricket is about 4 or 5 (or even 6) Tests series. Any reasonably feasible type of Test WC will kill the idea of proper Test cricket. IMHO we simply have to accept the a decent Test ranking is the...

Ryan Harris retires with immediate effect

Wow, that's some sad news. I was really looking forward seeing him play. The only bowler on either side with some ATG in him, imho. It's a cynical conclusion that this makes the Ashes a bit more balanced.... There is one thing I don't know/understand about Ryan Haris: Where was he before he...

***Official*** Pakistan in Sri Lanka 2015

Not that I think it is wrong (or right), but how did Jehan Mubarak get selected?

Roelof van der Merwe defects to the Netherlands

I saw him wandering around the Dutch team, a week ago at VOC when we played PNG. It was coming. Looking at his figures, he was the best man in the side in his first match.

Road to the 2015 Ashes in England

And the Watson/Marsh thing is over, now that Watson has fallen twice in a match to a bowler from a country with 5000 cricketers (including women and foreigners).

I didn't realise Benjamin Wilhelm of the House of Help was still around. Has he shown some good form in English FC cricket?

Road to the 2015 Ashes in England

This is spot on. And not only for keepers, but also for other fielders. Spectacular catches are the ones called brilliant. And some times they truely are. But most spectacular catches would have appeared regular catches, if the fielder would have done better before the catch. Both in...

Who do Neutrals want to win?

England. Since the 2005 summer, there is no other way. Normally I pick my favourites based on individuals. This can lead to the somewhat ludicrous situation that I can change my favourite within an over.

Yeah, but not just now. It was a first innings failure.

Got me there. Anyway, it's all a moot point. SL will have to chase 150. Which really should be easy.

***Official*** Pakistan in Sri Lanka 2015

I figured 275 would be 50/50 too. If Pakistan can get 350 (seems fair to get from 303/7, I guess) in the 3rd innings, 225 seems very much doable in the 4th, not?

Nice to see couple of Associate players in the CPL

The point is that most Dutch import players actually work here, mostly as professional player/coach. I'm fine with that. But the proposed system to force Associate players into BigBash won't help associate born and bred players too much.

I feel getting into this would open up a huge can if worms.

I don't mean to insult people, but that is most defenitely the reputation Pakistan has.

Umpire handling the ball. Now what?

During our yesterday evening's midsummer T20 match, we had some discussion in the field. And some more discussion after the match while sharing a beer and a laugh. An opponent batsman managed to pull a rather poor delivery to square leg. The fielder at deep forward square got in the line, but...

Nice to see couple of Associate players in the CPL

A possible flaw is that many associate players are not really from associate countries. The Dutch team that beat PNG twice this week has only 4 Dutch bred players. The rest are SA/NZ/Aus guys with a Dutch grandmother.

    *Official* India in Bangladesh 2015

I'm a bit hesitant to post this, as it might open up a can of worms, but: I feel some senior Indian players could and should have spoken out for the use of DRS.
