Livingstone gone at Old Trafford - Hameed holding firm on 86 though. A fairytale debut on the cards?

Usually has been effective at county level though - there is a reason why he's in his 13th season with Surrey. Anyway, 11-3 now. Young Sam sees off Allenby.

Haseeb Hameed making his List A debut today, folks. I did wonder if Lancs would give him some white ball cricket this year.

That was a fantastic over - the loss of Foakes probably the difference between 285 and 300.

So who's watching today's game then? Surrey 200 up in the 39th over, Borthwick goes as I write - too many players getting out when set. 300 starting to look unlikely.

Cricket stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

28 to 74 represents an improvement of over 150%, so you're not wrong there.

China watch (cont'd): 74 against Qatar today, though at one point they were 61-4 ... two of their batsmen got into double figures which is a first I'm guessing. Their final match against Bahrain tomorrow, can they scale the Everest of three figures?

    Your First Name XI

None called 'Jesus' though I'm guessing. If cricket were played in Latin America it would be a different matter. Recent footie headline in the Times: "Can Jesus help Pep to avoid a first season without a trophy?" The sub-editor was having a bit of a larf there, I suspect..

***Official*** Pakistan in West Indies 2017

Yes, one of the 199* was Azharuddin wasn't it? Who also played 99 Tests, though that was entirely of his own doing. Bishoo outlasting the senior batsman this morning. Hard to see this going until tea.

Cricket stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

From the names it appears that all four of the 'Arab' teams are choc full of Pakistani ex-pats, at least the Chinese team is indigenous. Does seem like a very small acorn to grow the game from though.

22 wickets at Worcester, in less than 90 overs play. Did someone say Pitch Liaison Officer?

Wickets all around the country except, crucially, at Old Trafford where that Somerset lead is starting to look critical.

**Official** Sri Lanka in England and Ireland 2016

Good from Hales, the first indication that England don't want to be batting all day? And good to see blue sky overhead - chance of playing till after 7.

Lancashire and Hampshire on the brink - nine down at Old Trafford. And some serious wobbling from Surrey, who looked fine while Davies and Sanga were adding 100 earlier.

Anyone think of a good reason why the first few rounds of county championship games couldn't have started on Saturdays? I understand that when they start playing T20s on Friday nights they'll need Saturday as a travel day, but there seems no reason not to utilise the whole weekend at the moment...

WG Grace - The Champion Cricketer

Not everyone here will be able to listen to it unfortunately, but if you can this programme broadcast on Radio 4 late last year is quite fun: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06k95ct

    ***Official*** English Domestic Season 2015

Maiden f-c 50 for Sam Curran against Northants. And it looks like just about every game in the country has been stopped by bad light. That's late September for you I suppose. Seems to be no consistency re: England players turning out for counties btw. If Broad and Cook are playing, why not...

Yeah, same here. Might be worth trialling in the later matches - quarter finals onwards, say. Although I'm not sure if all the quarters were on TV?
