Greatest knock in each of the ODI World Cups

...and would like to disagree. ● Injury Maxwell being injured doesn't only add to the drama , it also adds to the degree of difficulty of that innings, most monster scores are achieved with good health , without scoreboard pressure, some help from a recognised batsman at the other end , Maxwell...

    Botham vs Jadeja (batting)

I am sorry, but 2 points drop over 7 years is practically nothing. He played 8 matches over 5 years ffs. You counting what he does matters less here. In reverse to Botham, without his first 3 years, Jadeja averages 5 runs higher in Tests. Over 10 years.

    Botham vs Jadeja (batting)

Yes that Botham most of his career was solidly good and then dropped at the end. Yes as I have stated Jadeja at no.6 has been almost exclusively at the time of last three four years when I consider him specialist quality. But not overall because it's a fraction of overall innings.

Greatest knock in each of the ODI World Cups

mmm yes fascinating At a minimum I’d just want a good innings out of Stokes, some good batting, before giving him the prize. But it’s very evident that even that goes well beyond the infinitesimally low standard he’s held to.

    Botham vs Jadeja (batting)

I won't consider Jadeja's record in Australia a problem even if he was Rahane. The double standard is really on your behalf. I ain't expecting World Class numbers from both, hence I don't have a problem with Botham against Australia as well. So the same as Jadeja in SA...... Which you have...

    Botham vs Jadeja (batting)

Botham had some fine innings in Aus too. Would you consider Jadejas record in Aus as good if he was Rahane? I don't think you would. More of your double standards. And suddenly you call Jadeja top tier in Aus and now very good. I don't think you are clear in your own mind. Botham played 1 test...

Greatest knock in each of the ODI World Cups

Double century from #7 is so statistically unlikely that the other things don't really matter
  8. Athlai

Greatest knock in each of the ODI World Cups

Maxwell's innings was legendary but a good portion of the drama is due to him being injured. I think it is iconic but nowhere near the GOAT innings. Afghanistan entirely fell to pieces and weren't the strongest bowling attack to begin with.
  9. capt_Luffy

    Botham vs Jadeja (batting)

Jadeja played multiple valuable innings in Australia. This ton/no ton approch is ****. Viv had 10 less tons than Gavaskar, shan't be a dealbreaker. Jadeja's batting record in Australia is very good. And yes, Botham was Great in India, which by far the worst bowling side of his Era. Mid in...

Greatest knock in each of the ODI World Cups

You could argue that one innings had the World Cup on the line and the other was basically a fella swinging with nothing to lose with his team already out of the tournament.

    English Domestic Season 2025

Mammoth score of 417-6 for Essex, 2-112 for Nathan Barnwell, where does that stand in the list of most expensive innings from a bowler in List A cricket? I know it's just the one run off Mick Lewis' infamous figures in that Aus-SA game, which was an ODI record

    No hopers who made it

Solid calls, yes. Though I think both were hyped up as prodigies before their FC career (certainly true of Vaughan) but just stagnated in county cricket? Plus Vaughan had some pretty dodgy home wickets to bat on.

Greatest knock in each of the ODI World Cups

Braithwaite’s innings vs Stokes’s innings is such a lopsided comparison that it’s ridiculous anyone could even imagine Big Ginge the Gay Avenger played better. Ugh.

*Official* Road to the 2025-26 Ashes

He wasn't exactly the only one who took some tap from Hearne that day (Baker's figures are daft), there's freakish innings and then there's this.... https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/england-lions-in-australia-2024-25-1468871/cricket-australia-xi-vs-england-lions-tour-match-1468873/full-scorecard

And two games against CAXI where he only picked up three wickets across four innings and Lachlan Hearne (FC average of 25) smacked him for 21 off an over.

*Official* Road to the 2025-26 Ashes

I thought it was Headingley, where Bashir was bowling a lot better than I had seen him, especially given the utter road there. His control and at least some variations in pace looked a marked improvement. Like most, I had a low expectation of him and he bowled a lot better than I would have...

...better at Lord's (@Chin Music also commented on it). I think England would have won more comfortably had he been available throughout the 2nd innings. It's interesting that despite having played 10 CC games, Rehan has actually only bowled 20 more overs than Bashir did in his 3 Tests. As an...

1975 - Clive Lloyd 102 vs Aus Captains knock , ahead of its time aggression) 1979 - Viv Richards 135 vs Eng (Big player , big game , great innings ) 1983 - Kapil Dev 175 vs Zim (One man Army) 1987 - Dave Houghton 142 vs NZ (Houghton scored 142 off 137 in a total of 239 , won MoM despite...

Greatest knock in each of the ODI World Cups

I think the best knock in the 1987 World Cup was Houghton's century against the Kiwis. That was an incredible innings in a near impossible run chase.
