5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

I think you will find that they will leave a reasonable amount of grass on because otherwise, the Oval is just slow and low. It does tend to deteriorate in the latter part of a game, but would otherwise just be a completely dead pitch and quickly if they didn't leave some grass on it. Tomorrow...

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

ENG vs AUS Cricket Scorecard, 6th Test at London, August 24 - 29, 1989 I was trying to think of ones from the 1989 Ashes series. This one above was fairly gruesome. I seem to remember some decent bowling combos at different times in the 90s but they never use to get on the park too regularly...

    English Domestic Season 2025

I presume he's getting more dough doing that for Middlesex than he would otherwise get playing for NZ in Zim.

I am going to Friday and Saturday of this game, so I hope not too much rain interruption.

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

It hasn't been a road for much of the last 2/3 years when I have gone to watch county cricket there, as I work near there. I am not actually a Surrey fan but I watch a fair bit of cricket over there. It is correct to say that the Oval was very much a road from the mid 90s up until about 5 years...

    South Africa team selection

The provincial ones that SeamUP posted at the top of this page. I guess it must be a sponsorship thing. The only one I can figure out in terms of location is WSB Western Province. The other ones make no sense. Are DP World Lions Joburg. I was aware that the t20 franchises are essentially SA...

    South Africa team selection

What is it with the names of the SA Franchises? I seem to get lost of what they get called from competition to competition?

Are babar azam and marnus labuschgane underachievers?

Babar yes, Marnus no. Babar has a lot more flair but we simply haven't seen him prosper although some of that is down to the relatively small amount of test cricket Pakistan plays. Marnus has cashed in when playing on the previously flat Australian pitches. He's shown himself otherwise to have...

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

Broad made a point on comms that the outfield and the run ups were a lot softer at Old Trafford than some other grounds and that it is hard to get the same momentum running in and that means it is harder to get the speed up. It should be remembered that Archer has barely played fc, let alone...

*Official* India tour of England 2025 General Discussion

IND vs ENG 4th Test: Why have pitches in England been flat? | Cricket News - Times of India This article is about a week old and is from the Times Of India, of all papers, discussing why the decks have been so flat this series.

He is essentially a channel bowler for me and this is less of an asset with little seam movement around. It is hard to make the case for many bowlers to have done that well.

Oh I am in agreement. You would have thought he would be a good choice to take over from Woakes, although I think Woakes will likely play the last game.

The only thing I can say against the inclusion of Potts, is that he's not had a good first class year (averages 38 with the ball). That said, you would have thought they would look for attributes rather than mere stats which over a short period of time are not always helpful. PS, I definitely...

Have India failed to capitalize on BUMRAH?

Surely the last 18 months shows that India is in transition. No more Kohli/Rohit and no Ashwin/Shami. Four big players to lose. The batting clearly has some talent, but there needs to be some bowling coming through. That's going to affect the overall impact that he can have and especially the...

England players and selection discussion thread

Another issue with the pitches is that they reckon the drainage system that grounds now use sucks a lot of moisture out of pitches and outfields. When you combine that with our dry summer (even Manchester!) then that probably helps partly explain the flat decks but possibly not entirely. Perhaps...

Women's football stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

Ooopss! Amnesia from me. Even so, not winning a single knockout game without needing extra time pens is hard work.

In fairness, Tendulkar was far less of a player to watch from circa 2003 when he got tennis elbow and didn’t much cover drive.
