5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

He has been done up like a kipper after playing practically no first class cricket. Not that surprised he did little here. Poor planning from Key, McCullum and co.

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

Am I wrong in enjoying the Lord’s and Oval tests far more than the dreadful roads served up elsewhere? I know the weather has played a huge part here but I didn’t enjoy the other games so much. So speaks an old bowler!

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

This is weird, bright sunshine where I am, hammering it down five miles away.

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

This doesn’t look clever at all. Krishna might be bowling short, but it really looks I tired stuff.

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

Yep. Should have had a spinner on late in the first session.

Amused to be linked to this if so!

Plenty of poor fielding from England too. I haven’t been impressed with Gill’s use of his bowlers this innings.

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

India are still considerable favourites for me, but they do need one of these batters soon. Surprised India haven’t given a spinner a few overs though.

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

Wow, that was lucky from Brook. Shoddy thinking from Siraj.

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

Yep, I was at the Oval both Friday and yesterday. The catches dropped on Friday night are pretty obviously the defining moments of this game from an English perspective. I want to also say that the bowlers deserve a fair bit of credit for their efforts yesterday. You can say Overton was a dodgy...

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

It seemed to have been forgotten that he actually bowled pretty well away from home on the two tours last winter, let alone getting to fill his boots last summer v Windies.

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

I suspect it is fairly complicated but I guess the fact that so few young bowlers are coming through is a reason why they have been looking at Hully, Sonny Baker and others.

Not quite as bad as Cook being from the "Right sort of Family" when he kept his job despite the most abysmally weak minded showing as captain possible in 2013/14.

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

I can't say that I recall that, but the lack of merit made me spew. Anyway, how long before Pope burns all 3 reviews this morning?

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

There was some criticism in one of the papers about the series being crammed in just to allow the pyjama party (AKA the 100) have its full August slot. It's quite reasonable that they could have allowed a few extra days for the series. Players are not robots. India themselves are playing quite a...

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

I am in London, less than 2 miles from the Oval now and we have had significant rain over the last few hours and more is forecast. Maybe it eases off to get some play in this afternoon. The groundstaff will have a lot of work to do to get it playable when it does stop raining.

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

To be honest I went largely by memory. I went to the 1992 Oval test and saw the 2ws backed up by Mushy. Serious cricket watching times. I always hated people bigging up the next successful trundler in county cricket when five minutes watching them told you that they would be useless in test...
